i think not the hook style but rather that these hooks are rather flexible.
Good thought, Wes. These hooks are definitely flexible.
John
P.S. Did some searching for 400Ts. Looks like they are no longer produced. They are not listed in Tiemco’s current inventory, and two reliable sources either do not show them or show them as no longer available.
Mustad #80150
Thanks, Duck.
John
Are the 80150’s less flexible?
I don’t know…thought I had some but didn’t so I just supplied the number…comparison charts show other company’s with them too.
Picked up a couple more materials for the Bitterroot Worm collection - a purple vernille and a darker brown ultra chenile, which is almost identical to the vernille product. Tied up several worms using the furled extended body technique. The worms were tied ( top to bottom ) with dark brown only, a combination of earthworm and dark brown, a combination of purple and dark brown, and purple only.
This techique is certainly easier than the articulated extended body of the B. W. 2.0. I just added some more wraps of lead wire to make up for the loss of weight from the hook shank in the articulated version. Considering how well the 2.0 was catching the bottom the other day, the 3.0 should also get down where the fishies are.
Will give all of them a test drive in the next week or so.
John
P.S. Karen - I can’t speak to the question of flexibility of the Mustad 80150BR hook.
Actually, I’m kind of liking the long distance release factor which equates to less fish handling and more fishing. I’ve always been more interested in hunting / finding the fish and hooking them than fighting and landing them. The next logical step is to cut the hook off just short of the barb, just enough there to hook up and maybe keep a fish on with applied pressure, but easy to let it go by just throwing some slack. Been thinking about going that route for some time now. Not quite there yet, but not far away, either.
I am bending the Daiichi 2200 hook ever so slightly, and using Alpaca in a dubbing loop, with a claret seals fur head, untrimmed . the fish have shown their approval Thanks for the good idea, it helped break out of the lock step routine.
Great !! Sounds like the fly is different enough that you could give it your choice of names.
John
P.S. What size hook ??
P.S.1 Got any pics to post - with or without fishies ??
The Daiichi 1770 Swimming Nymph Hook is very much like the 400T’s.

Larry -
Thanks for the reference.
On feather-craft.com, the Daiichi 1770 is described as being identical to the 400T.
Good news for one of the posters here who was looking for a source of the 400T and probably won’t be able to find one. For that same poster, take note that various sizes of chenile, all in a good variety of colors, also are available at feather-craft.com.
For those who haven’t dealt with feather-craft, their customer service is at least very good, and for a couple of experiences I had with them, I’d call it outstanding.

I got lucky a few days ago.
My local Sportsman’s Warehouse is ‘blowing out’ quite a lot of their fly tying materials, including hooks.
I was able to buy four packs of Daichii 1770 for $1 each (all they had-I’m a hook junky, also bought a bunch of 3906Bs 50 packs for $1). I’m going to split these half for damsels and half for John’s BW.
So, if you have one of these stores near you, you may want to check…seems they won’t be carrying the 1770 any more.

… is the Daiichi 1870, which might prove a better hook for the B. W. since it is a 2X heavy hook. Should prove much stiffer than the 400T and solve the problem of landing fish, if the flexibility is the culprit, as suggested by Wes. Also, the 1870 might have enough heft to it that you wouldn’t need to add weight for the shallower or slower water you fish.

Thanks for the heads up on the Sportsman’s Warehouse pricing on the 1770. Wondering if that is a closeout price on the 1770 or just Sportsman’s good deal ?? I was in the successor store, Warehouse Sports, in Missoula this morning ( which is where I ran across the 1870 ), but their prices were all full retail on the Daiichi hooks.
John
oh no! wichita store is closed. there’s no SW in KS. they’ve closed 23 stores.
Here’s my attempt at this pattern.
I tied them in several colors. I think I’ll catch a lot of fish on these!
Nice, easy tie.
Thanks John.
Buddy
Buddy,
Nice job!!! they look like they will catch fish, let us know the outcome.
