Bite Tippet

Have any of you used Berkley Fireline as a bite tippet? A friend of mine has been using it for fly fishing for blues and swears it works as well as some of the knotable braided steel leaders and a whole lot cheaper. Anyone else tried this?

Bob , I have not tried this, only the wire bite tippet. Sounds Like it should work. What pound test is he using?

I’ve know of guys fishing 20lb mason for blues when there was a chance of leader shy stripers around, but not fireline.

Bill,

He’s using 20# Fireline for the tippet. He says another advantage is that it lays flat and won’t kink like stranded wire. Sounds pretty good to me, what do you think?

Bob, I think it would be worth a try. It would lay out better than wire, but normally use only about a foot of the wire.
