Birthday suprise for my wife...

Birthday Surprise for my Wife, well she hasn’t gotten it yet, its coming from the west coast in the mail. I ordered her a TFO casting for recovery 5wt. She hasn’t fly fished yet. She has been to a fly festival a couple years ago along with me, Tuber, and Dotman. There she got to cast a fly rod with some instruction from someone who was giving free lessons. She said she really ennjoyed it and seemed to. Also there, a fly rod was won during a drawing by someone we knew, a 5wt TFO casting for recovery rod. Susan seemed to really like it alot. So I’ll find out in a couple of days when it arrives in the mail. I’ll have to wait and see…

Hi Grubb

Great idea for a birthday gift for your wife. Hope she enjoys it for many years. Please wish her a very healthy and happy birthday for me

grumps

Nice thought there Grubb. In my case, such a gift would raise an eyebrow…or two.

Mark
PS: Unless PINK? and even then…

sure wish my wife fished or even came along.

I’ve tried to interest my wife in fly fishing with for the last six or seven years with no luck. She’s concerned about hurting the fish. 8T

Tim,
I’m sure Susan will love it. She sure admired that one at the show.

Hey Mark…As I recall, the rod is a deep purple blank with one of those pink “crossed ribbons” on it. It really IS a beautiful rod. Tim can correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe I’m correct.
Mike

I got one for my wife two years ago. She liked it enough that she has since refused all opportunities to upgrade. I hope your wife enjoys hers as much as Marguerite has.

Great idea. Please, keep us posted. Pics would be nice.

Great idea grubb. I might try that, my anniversary is coming up. Of course Dana doesn’t fly fish, but then I could borrow her new rod. what do you think? lol.

Mike yep it is a deep purple rod, you can only tell its purplel when its turned into the light (if my memory serves as well) with the pink ribbon on it. Yep she sure did like then very much, I’ll have to wait and see. I ordered it on the day of her birhday Oct. 3, she got other goodies for her birthday along with dinner and all, and she doesn’t know this is on the way. I hope she comes home and finds it sitting on the porch from the mail with her name on it. Her dad is having a big dinner this weekend for her, her twin and another sister, so hopefully it will arrive just b-4 then.
Thank you all for the well wishes, I’ll show her this thread after the rod arrives . . .

PS: When I ordered the rod I had no idea that Oct. is Cancer aware month, all the football players on TV are whereing pink gloves and shoes and such and she noticed that so I kinda played that up keeping her on that thought…

Well, we’ll see . . .

I hope you have a box of tissues handy!! I know I needed one just to read through this post!
Susan is a lucky, lucky little girl!!
Hugs.

I just got home and there it was with my wife wondering who was sending her something in the mail… I had to say it has your name on it open it… She was very surprise and really wants to give fly fishng a try!!! She also said that it was very sweet of you all to post such nice things, I let her read the thread right after she opened it…

Thank you all for helping make her Birthday special…

Tim

WONDERFUL! Now you’ve gone & done it Tim. Susan’ll be fishin’ with us in the Spring when I come over for the Festival & hopefully when you 2 get to Ohio next Summer.
Susan…A big birthday hug to you from me!
Mike

That’s awesome, Tim! Keep us updated, you know: first fish, first time she outfishes you, that sort of thing.

The rod tube came seperatley, got here a copule days later, She is really excited and wants to learn, and wants “ME” to teach her, that ME part gives me caution …lol cause I want NOT to frustrate her efforts to learn… Thankfully its been raining alot and cold since we got it so i have time before we can get out in the yard to start, advice needed here from anyone with experience in this matter

I gave my wife the same rod a few years ago and later the Sage pink CFR rod and pink CFR Ross reel. Both are 5 wts, but she much prefers the TFO. She has to overline the Sage by two weights to enjoy casting it. She is a fairly decent caster, too.

My wife volunteers for CFR also and is very active in the AK organization. She just organized an art show they call Foundations for Recovery… They got a number of artists to decorate bras and they are currently being displayed in various galleries around Anchorage.

Sorry for the side track on your thread, but I find CFR a worthy cause.

Grubb,

I wish you and your wife many many many years of fly fishing together.

Happy belated birthday Mrs. Grubb.
