Birmingham

Any fly tyers in the Birmingham area? My Christmas present is here and I am excited to put it to use! I’m pretty new to tying, though have been reading and messing around it for several years.

Hey. mtnram I’m not in the B’ham area, bout 125 miles NW of there, but there are quite a few tiers in the in your area according to the Alabama River Fishing web site. Try them at www.alabamariverfishing.net click on ARF MESSAGE BOARD then scroll down to the Fly Fishing Forum. You should be able to connect with someone in your area. By the way do you know about Riverside Fly Shop up on the bank of the Sipsey. You will find Brandon a very nice guy to deal with, and he is the main advertiser on the ARF website. You might even try Alabama’s only public trout stream should you visit him as the trout are released just a little ways upstream of the shop. Good luck, David

Thank EL, I apprecitated the info! I’ve been backpacking through the Sipsey a bit but have not done any fly fishing there and am looking forward to checking it out! I will check out the Alabama River Fishing group as well! I guess you are up in Tennessee somewhere!
Thanks again,
Mtnram

Actually I’m in NW Alabama a few miles south of the TN line. I mostly fish Shoals creek and other tributaries of the Tennessee River. Some great fishing for yellow bass and white bass below Wilson Dam up until about 3 weeks ago when the water came up along with lower water temps. Now it looks like the ice on the guides may be a problem. Oh yeah I do have a TN license and fish Shoal creek and Buffalo river just north of me when my work allows it.

There used to be a strong contingent of N Alabama fellas on the SE Fly Fishing Forum.
They posted a bunch a pictures of some beautiful, small water.
