biggest ever swap...

I’m kinda expecting to have a lot of time at the vice this winter and was interested in providing myself (and others) with a unique challenge. So, I was wondering, what is the biggest swap ever hosted on FAOL? I don’t think the tribute to Al counts as it wasn’t typically a “swap”.

Let me know what you recall as the biggest swap and whether or not you’d be inclined to participate in one bigger.

Suggestions for a theme would also be welcome. I’m not going to commit to it yet; just seeing if there’s other interest.

Hi Ed…I think 24 flys was the largest swap I’ve been in here. Would I be interested in doing one again?..no way! 12 flys is my limit now…Jason

I was in a caddis swap on another site once that had 50 participants. I was sick of tying caddis flies by the end of that one.

Largest swap I was in was the
“International” Fly Swap based out of France. I got them done, and it was fun. Had to tye 50.

I’ve never been in a really big swap, but I’m game if there’s enough interest!

Anyone check the archives…Can’t say I’ve seen any all that large in the time since the light went off in my punny mind.

And I noticed there was a whole lot on this site I was missing out on…visited this site for quite a while without notice to the whole BB…lol…was very lost in all the pattern’s and articles…Have been and will continue to follow this thread…!

Just so you do know there are those of us lurking around in here alot…least we be forgotten!

“I’ve often wondered why it is that so many anglers spend so much money on,and pay so much attention to.the details on the wrong end of the fly line.If they took as much care in selecting or tying their flies as they did in the selection of the reel and rod,They might be able to gain the real extra edge that makes it possible to fool a fish that has,in fact, seen it all before” A.K.Best

Everyone wants to excel in this sport but at the same time we let traditionalists place restrictions on our tactics, methods, and ideas. I always assumed that fly fishing was a sport that allowed imagination, creation, adaptation, investigation, dedication, education, revelation? : Fox Statler, On Spinners (Not the dainty Dry Fly kind) “Spinner’d Minner Fly”

I suppose there aren’t that many other folks who are as ambitious (or stupid) as I am. Probably the latter.

It sounds as if it would be tough to put together a swap larger than about 20. I’ll keep checking to see if there is more feedback on this idea as time passes.
