i got mine today to!
wonderful job everyone.
thanx especially to you flygoddess for the extra you put in 8)
Glad they arrived. I hope you hook into some monsters with them.
Any of you who received these flies willing and able to post pictures of them? I was interested in this swap but just couldn’t participate.
Thanks
I got my flies yesterday and they are great. I am planning to go to Montauk this weekend and I hope that my biggest fish will change.
I wish I could take pictures. My camera is too old to get up close and focus.
Thanks
alra,
Go to the swap thread to see the pictures. I have a link to my pictures, and I have a set on the thread itself because some had trouble with the link.
I should have done this last night, Cause these flies are all worth the save. Here is my pictures of it:
Those look like a great bunch of flies, all beautifully tied. I’m especially interested in the second to last one, (gartside soft hackle???). Who tied it and does anybody have the recipe? Would really love to tie a few. Thanks for the help.

I tied it and do it in different combinations like Black and Red, Olive and Brown, Black and Purple, Yellow and red and this one in Burnt Orange and Black.
Streamer hook in size 2 to 6.
I have been playing around with it even more lately and in the picture I used 4 strands of flash, but lately I have been adding a lot more.
Put a cone on (or not) them about 1/4 of the way back from eye, start your thread and tie in flash. Leave flash long for now.
I like to use two different color of Marabou and I tie them in together (same spot, 1/4 back from eye).
I like the top section of the feather and do about 4 to 5 wrapes, but Jack Gartside told me he uses from the stem, so you decide for yourself.
While doing the wraps I work forward fast. Don’t want too many wraps, it gets too bulky.
I always add one Malard or Guinea feather for a collar, but I have both in a bunch of different colors. White Malard or the Tan work good on all colors if you don’t have them in a bunch of colors.
This thing moves great in the water. When done pull everything back and trim flash even with marabou. The reason for tying this on the front of the hook is you get a lot of movement, but the hook is right there.
Thank you, and I have caught some big fish on this pattern.
This site has more talent in its little finger, than many sites have in their whole body. Great job to everyone in that swap. I’ll probably get back into fly swaps when my business slows down in November.

FG, got a name for that beauty? I’m also wondering if you push the cone back a little after you’ve got it all tied in and trimmed (like in Peter F’s conehead combo). Great looking flies from everyone. Very impressive. My largest trout have also come from Halloween buggers that looked just like the last one pictured here. Right on!
I do slide the cone back and put a thread head on. Keeps the cone tight . I have put a bead behind the cone before also to keep the cone tight. The fact that all the material is tied on the front of the hook, it can slide back.
The Hot Chocolate I tie in the Varigated Brown/black with Brown Grizzly and in Verigated Orange/black with Burnt Orange Grizzly. It is a smaller woolly bugger and I fish it more as a nymph with the Gartside Softhackle. Amazing how well Burnt Orange and Black works, just like Purple.
Thanks for all the useful info Fly Goddess, its just what I was looking for. By the way that looks like some kind of curved streamer hook, is that right? Thanks a ton, beautiful fly!
Fly Goddess, that has a spey like quality to it. Very cool. Excellent job everyone.
Thanks hon. Hope it works for you as well as me. I am going to try these flies real soon and will post how I do, I would like to hear how mine does…K?
I wasn’t in the swap (just heard about it now. lol.), but i’m gonna tie some of those up for the steelies. Me and a couple friends might be taking a trip to Michigan or Indiana, in the next couple of weeks, so hopefully, I can give 'em a try then. I’ll keep you posted. It could be the new, hot pattern!
