I freely admit to being a “Sparkle Dun” kind of guy. I was thinking, though, about Rene Harrop’s cripple PMD (with his pheasant tail color abdomen). So, I think the same color concept of abdomen v thorax on the sparkle dun MAY make it even more enticing to the trout.
Anyway, playing around with the idea of a sort of “orangey” abdomen… It takes no longer to tie as I usually only put enough dubbing on to tie the abdomen before re-loading the thread for the thorax and head…
John,
Good point and good link.
Short (funny??) story. When I lived in the Mountain West, I got a large aquarium so I could study mayfly insects. Not sure if it was legal then to take insects from the stream, but I did.
Anyway, I “raised” a whole bunch from tiny nymphs. Watched them grow and watched them move around. My wife was not happy with it, but humored me.
One day, when returning home from work, I checked my aquarium and found the oxygen pump unplugged and no insects! When my wife returned, I asked what happened to my insects. She was unhappy. Said she noticed all these “bugs” flying around the basement seemed to be coming from the aquarium so she pulled the plug!
I had waited a long time to see the hatching and missed it…
