Seege,

Mind if I tag along with an A.K.'s Hopper ?

“I’ve often wondered why it is that so many anglers spend so much money on,and pay so much attention to.the details on the wrong end of the fly line.If they took as much care in selecting or tying their flies as they did in the selection of the reel and rod,They might be able to gain the real extra edge that makes it possible to fool a fish that has,in fact, seen it all before” A.K.Best

“Wish ya great fishing”

Bill

Yes Seege, I tied an Adams for your dry fly swap.

I’m in. I’ll tie an x-hopper.

PS - do you consider a cricket a hopper?

Seege, I would like to get in with a bullet head hopper that works really well for me.

You can’t catch fish with your fly in the air!

Hey I’de like to join with a Letort hopper.
Thanks
Doug

Hey, I’d like to join with a Klinkhamer style parachute hopper.

Seege,

You got me ! I will tie up some of my
baby hoppers

Wet

We are still looking for one more participant.

Wheeeew!!!

That filled up pretty quick and thanks for showing up guys. Its nice to know that you all have the strength for another swap. This should be good we have some great tyers and some good patterns entered. I am looking for an early due date to get them turned around to you all. Maybe sooner if all goes well. If we dont get another I will jump in and tie a Stacked Hair Hopper Parachute that will make 10 completed sets. So start tying and I will send you all an email this weekend with the details.

Too late to jump in with Al’s Foam Hopper?

Fishlux your in and thats 10 tyers. You all will get an email tomorrow with all the details. So lets start tying guys because its going to be an early due date.

Sculpin,

Forgot to answer your question. I would say its right along there with the hoppers your more than welcome to send those if you want. Im sure one could change the materials and such to make it a hopper of some sort.

Seege

Then a quick poll for the tyers, what size/color do you want? Looking for a concensus here, not a custom order B)

I tend to like black on a #10. It’s a loverly little cricket.
I have Cricket Black, Katydid green, Hopper Tan, or Hopper gray available.
I tie them from #12 - #2. Warning: #2 is about a chuck-n-duck cast, but the Largemouth love 'em.

Again, I’m not trying to make sure everyone gets their wish, just a simple majority.

Fishlux,

I dont have a problem with anyone of the patterns. I do use hoppers and big dries for smallies. Im sure you will also get some replies from others too.

Seege

Fishlux, Big small I throw them all. Including crickets. So just tie what you like to fly and we can always wear a helmet if need be.

Fishlux,
Whatever you feel good about…I just completed Crickets myself for another swap on here…rushed em so I’d be totally free with this one…tyeflies recieved them already and I gather he is in approval of em…and I’ll try for a Friday ship Seege…Bill

Seege,

10 “Big Head Hoppers” in the mail.

Recipe is:
Hook: 2X long dry-fly hook, #6 - 12
Thread: 3/0 monocord, color of choice
Rib: Use any thread to match or
contrast with body. I used DMC
embroidery thread, one strand.
Body: A strip of closed - celled foam,
color of your choice, about 1/8
inch wide by 4 inches long.
Tie in rib and body foam at hook
bend. Spiral wrap foam to 3/4
hook shank, tie off. Wrap a base
of thread and tie in wing.
Wing: Natural deer hair.
Head: Closed-cell foam in color to
match or contrast with body. 1/4
inch wide by 1 inch long. Tie in
under the deer hair butts extend
toward hook barb. Poke a hole in
the foam to allow the eye of the
hook to pass through the head.
Pull the foam over top of hook
force the eye through the hole.
secure the foam with thread
wraps. Legs may be added. Whip
finish, cut thread and excess
foam, cement.
Legs: (Optional) Rubber legs your color
choice.
