Best boxes for buggers/streamers/poppers

I admit it. I really like those expensive C&F boxes and I have most of my flies in them. I was considering getting one of their streamer boxes for the big flies but then saw the Cliff Bugger Barn. That got me wondering… any recommendations for a good fly box for streamers, buggers, big poppers? Freshwater.

Diane: Bass Pro Shops carries a large 2 ft X 3 ft X 2.5ft soft side Dale Ernhardt Jr #8 endorsed soft side tackle box. It will hold 5,644 plastic worms, I am not sure how that will equate to bugs and poppers?

I use the Cliff’s Bugger Barn to store all my streamers, poppers, etc. If I’m in the drift boat, or in a tube, it’s with me.

If I’m wading, I carry a few streamers in a small C&F streamer box that I keep in my vest.

I love both products!!!

I usually use nubby tack boxes. They dont wear out and hold everything from small buggers to my saltwater flies.

Oh, Ok, I’ll do it!!

How many flies are you talking about. I use a Bonnand Boat box for my bigger flies.

I bought it from MikeV here on the board, it is big. Measures 10 1/2 x 13 1/2 x 2 1/2. I paid somewhere in the 30.00 range then I went to Netcraft and bought empty lure boxes to keep the flies seperate.

I still have not filled the two of them up. I need much more time for that.

If you can find a suitable container. You can use a sheet of craft foam, a pair of pinking shears, some waterproof glue and a razor blade to create your own “C&F” type Box. It’s very easy to do.

Fly Wallets for larger flies makes a lot of sense. Some designs are even belt mountable.

These wallets have velcro tabbed nylon covers (like a book) and several pages of heavy duty zip locks inside. Easy to see what you’ve got and big enough for odd shaped larger flies…

Diane,

I just saw an ad and I thought of your post.

It is for a lure holder by Plano and it’s called “FlipSider”.
It looks interesting and may work for the type of flies you are asking about…though it is originally for spinning lures…

You can check it out …I haven’t…

I have a Bugger Barn and like it. During the Great Waters FF Expo in Minneapolis, I met Matt Cassel from Cliff Outdoors. He showed me a new box they were introducing in the next few weeks that might be just what you’re looking for. He referred to the size/color I was interested in as the “small deep blue”. The Cliff Outdoors phone number is 307-577-1146. You can also reach them at:

Hello Diane,

I also recommend Cliff’s Bugger Barn. I have two of them that I take with me in my boat bag on my PortaBote.

It can certainly hold BIG flies, but remarkably it also can hold a size 24 midge!

Cheers,

I use this one from Cabela’s:

I get the large ones.
