Ja ever have one 'o them days? Ya go to a certified Killer King Kong place, zip, zero, Nada. Well, went to company pond north of Andrews, Texas. Last week two of us caught 40+ big to bull gills each and some bass. This week, you guessed it, zippity do dah.
Using the new Winston 9’, 6wt and my now go to 3 wt by Gene at Texas Fly Report. Been watchin’ the big bass ambush minnows against the bank all morning. Small perch or minnow get up in the shallow grass on bank, and WHAM, BAM, BOOM! Water explodes and bait is breakfast for Mr. Bass.
Expasperated, I tie the big, size 2, olive bugger on what I thought was the Winston, but NO, it is the 3 wt. I am too tired and to trashed to switch, just cast it.
Make two casts along the bank, NADA. Thrid and telling myself last cast, you know the rest.
WHAM, BAM, BOOM, Fish On! Took it like a bigin’ just started swimming off, line goes taught, set hook and deep in the greenish hued water a BIG silver side flashes sideways and the FIGHT IS ON! Usin’ drag and playin’ the brute till tired. Drag in today’s prize, a 3 lbs, LMB. Great Fun!
