Hi folks, I will be in the Belmont area for a long weekend next month to visit my son in college. Can anyone offer any small water fishing opportunities this time of year? I know lake Norman is nearby, but I am looking for smaller water that I can squeeze a couple of hours on without taking too much time from visiting my son and relatives in Gastonia.
If you are thinking of fishing for trout the closest two DH streams will be either Wilson Creek or South Mountain. You can find directions to either online. Both are probably close to a two hour drive from Gastonia. We got a pile of rain last week and most of the smaller rivers are still very muddy. Good luck.
Mac I was in south mountain in late November I think winter is a good time in our mountains to fish no one fishing esp.in the weekdays on weekdays at south mountain there WILL be hikers there.Think small for lines and flies.3 weight or less and midge bwo’s or little black nymphs will be the ticket .Stream is right beside the parking lot and either walk up or down and you might not even need waders.
