Beginners Only Anti-Shack Nasty Marathon Fly Swap

Colt45, Thanks for the heads up.

xisintheend, you out there, Buddy. Are they in the mail?

REE

Howdy Swappers,

I guess I’d better get to the apology first. Usually your flies would already be photographed and on the way back to you by now. Unfortunately, that is not the case, so you have my apology for being tardy.

We have three sets of flies still in the mail so I’m waiting on those to get things done. I have not heard from xisintheend, either in posts here or e-mail answers. I’m afraid he may have dropped out. If so, any extra flies will be divided up between the rest of you as best as I can.

I’ll also be posting the website for the fly pics as soon as I shoot them.

I realize this is the first swap for many of you, or your dusting off some tying skills, but next month let’s all try to get those flies in by the 30th.

I’ll keep everyone posted as things progress, be expecting an e-mail.

REE

Ron, I was going to wait until the end of the swap and send you some flies as a thank you for running the swap but you can just keep the extra from me each month.

Howdy Folks,

No flies in the mail again today. Hopefully in the AM.

FTroop, Thanks, Bud. The offer is graciously accepted.

REE

Sadly, we have lost another tier. PT65 has had to drop out due to health issues. As far as I’m concerned, your family and health come first. I know my wife and I wish him well and will keep him and his family in our prayers.

RE how I found the itty bitty magnets for the toe tags-- I work for a magnet company! I was trying to hook those toe tags on those #18 shorty nymph hooks and it was a bit tough, hence the magnets.

I’m currently working on photos for a short ‘tying tips’ article for FAOL on using super strong magnets for fly fishing and tying. Uses include material holders on your vise, cleanup of spilled hooks, fly holder on your neck lanyard or vest, and my new hook organizer that you can drop on the floor with open lid and not lose a single hook!

DANBOB

Another day with no flies in the mail box. For those that have their flies in, how long do you want me to wait?

Danbob. Very cool ideas. Looking forward to seeing your article.

REE

I don’t have much experience to go on. I’m just interested in having a successful series of swaps – so it’s hard to say.

I don’t want the individual tiers to drop out, but I don’t want to put unnecessary burden on the swapmeister either.

Waiting a few more days is ok with me, but, in any case, I would support whatever the swapmeister felt was best. No problem on that.

im comfortable with what you decide Ron.

No problem with me if you wait a bit longer. It’s been snowing here and all the rivers are way down, so my fishin’ activities are fly tying and rod building for a while now!
DANBOB

OkieNoodler’s flies arrived in the mail today. Nice tie, by the way. Since he joined the swap very late, good effort at getting them in.

I’m going to wait til Wednesday of this week, then mail out what I have. My apologies to those who had their flies in on time.

E-mail in the morning.

REE

Howdy Fellers,

When I was writing the e-mail that went out this morning I was slightly distracted (if you can call a 30 pound cat crawling on the keyboard slightly distracted). In the first sentence where it says November, that should be October. I caught it after a few were sent out and corrected it.

I know this is a beginners swap and many of you want a critque of your flies. Never fear. That will be headed your way along with your flies each month. I figure that’s personal so you’ll be getting a hard copy each month.

Just a quick reminder too, that the deadline for your Christmas Contest fly is December 20th. Any fly received after that is disqualified for prizes, but eligible for honerable mention. If you don’t play, you can’t win.

Looking forward to those wet flies due in by November 30th.

Tight Lines and Best Fishes.

REE

What’s the final number we’ll be tying for November? Less than 12? I’m going to start on it tonite.
DANBOB

Sorry I’ve been so delinquent on the thread here folks. Just found out that my wife is pregnant with our first! I’ve been calling friends and family, making doctors apointments, and trying to feed a 100lb woman who now eats like a sumo, and haven’t had alot of time for the good ole’ interweb.

Hope everyone is well. I can’t wait to see these flies!

Howdy Fellers,

For November your tying a total of ten flies, one for each swapper, including yourself. I like everyone to have a full swap set.

Okie Noodler, Congrats, Buddy. I remember what that was like though it was 23 years ago. Wait til your share of the 2 AM feeding and diaper changing starts. That’s really fun?

If we have anyone new to the swap join in, it won’t be until after the tying contest. I don’t think it would be fair to the rest of you.

REE

Okie,

From one Okie to another, congrats! Yeah, I live in New Jersey now, but I’m still an Okie in every way but location. And like so many of us, I been travelin’. I have one child born in California, one in Texas, and one in New Jersey. My wife says we can’t ever move again!

It’s trite but true – your life will never be the same.

Go Sooners!

Our buddy Doug, in BC, is making the rest of us look like slackers. I now have in my possession his wet flies for the month of November, and his Christmas fly. Very nicely tied on both counts, Doug.

REE

Another mail run and still no flies from Colt45. If they arrive later, I’ll include them in the wet fly assortment. Your October flies will be photographed today and mailed out in the morning. Sorry for the delay. Won’t happen again.

REE

No worries Ron.

I’ve started early on my soft-hackles so that I’m not a delinquent again…
