Dale Clemens books for the beginner. Fly Rod Building Made Easy by Art Scheck as well. http://www.rodbuilding.org/list.php?2 Check out your local library. They may be able to get them from the rest of the State inventory. Same with local college libraries. No need to pay for them if you can get them from the library. If that doesn’t work, let me know and you can borrow some of mine.
An excellent book is Tom Kirkman’s book on rodbuilding. Covers all you need to know and has great detailed photos. He runs rodbuilding.org website and you can get it through the website or Amazon. It’s also not very expensive-around $18 as I recall. Also, check out his website for answers to any questions you have on rodbuilding.
Handcrafting a Graphite Fly Rod by L.A. Garcia, put out by Frank Amato Publishing, has good information, clear instructions, and great pictures to help you out. It’s also a great idea to find someone who is experienced in rod building to help you get started. That’s how I build my first rod. I’m already planning the next 3 or 4 rods to add to the collection.

Gandolf, at the bottom of the home page, there is a link to “rod building.” It is a 12 part series that the late Al Campbell did some years ago. It is a good instructional series for introductory level rod builders. Best Regards…
I agree with Joel, I have been building fly rods, and rebuilding & repairing fly rods for over 10 years now. I have always used Al Campbell’s twelve part series on “Building a Graphie Rod”. If you want I can send you the series by Al Campbell in PDF formate (requires the free Adobe Reader download).

I second Art Scheck (my first choice) and also L.A. Garcia! Two great rod builders and their books have great information. Great pics and detailed examples. I also recommend going to your local library to look for these.
