HOW DO I GET MY BEADS TO GO ON THE HOOK IF THEY WONT GO AROUND THE BEND?
Not sure what your problem might be, but, when I have a bead that will not go around the bend it is usually caused by it hanging on the barb. Smash down the barb and see if that is your problem.
ok ill try that .thank you
I agree with Warren…sometimes though it does get by the barb and still won’t go around the bend… frequently it can be forced…really forced…I’ve even gone so far as to use a pliers…a certain % gets fractured but they are usually stuck anyway…mostly I just push hard with my thumb nail…
USE THE RIGHT SIZE BEAD FOR THE HOOK YOU ARE USING!!

some hooks just wont accept beads. tiemco 200 is one of them.
I agree with Norm, many times if you use a bead a size larger you may have no problem getting it past the bend.

Dremel or drill with small bit used on the small opening will sometimes be quite helpfull too.
Just don’t use your fingers to hold the bead…

I have a tool for forcing beads onto hooks. I saw it on E-bay and had my friendly tool shop make me one. It’s a 2 inch diameter alum. disk 1/8’ thick with different size counterbores along the edge. You drop the bead in the right hole start the hook through the bead and take it around to the hook eye. Even if you don’t have to force the bead on is saves a lot of stuck fingers.
I did have to give the tool shop a selection of beads and the smallest hook I would be using.
ive got the same problem. i smash down the barbs but my beads still wont complete the bend. o well…they are ugly beads anyway…they are like red and green glass beads. with very tiny holes.
Remember that when using the beads with the tapered holes, the small side goes on first.
If you are using a limerick bend hook the bead will not go over it. that may be part of your problem.
dsaavedra,
There is a difference between metal beadheads and glass/plastic beads. the metal beads are drilled with a small hole on one side and larger hole on opposite side. Kinda funnel shaped. You insert the hook point into the small hole to thread the beadhead on the hook and most of the time you must smash the barb down. On your glass/plastic beads, I think the hole is the same size on both sides and that is what makes it so difficult to put on a hook and most of the time the glass/plastic bead just breaks from the force of trying to put in on the hook. It is just a trial and error thing and you must smash the barb for glass/plastic beads or they just will not go. If you do find one that will go on without smashing the barb, it usually will be too large and slide off the hook eye too!!
I could be wrong on all of the above, but, just relating what little experience I have with this.
I agree with Warren. Most of time you have to flatten the barb when using craft type beads. I found that a 6/0 glass silver lined czech bead which can be found in better craft stores will barely fit over the barbs of a Mustad 3399 #10, which is an excellent size for panfish. Here is a sample.

David, if you mean the really small seed beads they fit very well on a sz 20 scud, no need to crush the barb.
I am interested in Jack Hise’s bead tool! Could you post a picture, Jack? Thanks, Cracker
I if someone that can post photos will sent me a pm with their email address I’ll send them the photo of the tool I use.
send me the picture Jack. I’ll get it up after work tonight.
Sent Jim, Thank you.
If the bead will go past the barb, but not around the bend, put the hook and bead in your vice and gently lift on the hook eye until the bead slides on around. For this to work, the bead needs to slide most of the way around without forcing. You may have to push the eye back down until the shank is level.
This method is easier to control the force than trying to straighten the hook with pliers.
Good luck,
