I like fishing with a san juan worm but don’t like casting with split shot. I’ve seen a couple pictures online of sjw’s with a beadhead tied in the middle of the body, but have never seen tying instructions, and that would really help me as I’ve only been tying a few months. Do any of you know how I could make one?
umm add a bead to your favorite worm

Something like that is what I am looking for, thanks. I need all the instructions I can get, pictures don’t always do it.
I knew I could just plop a bead in the middle, but didn’t know how to get the thread over the bead. Didn’t know to sort of make two ties on one fly.
Here are some more great patterns from JP at Roughfishers.com They are effect carp patterns but many fish will eat them. Check out his website for some more great patterns: roughfisher.com: Fly Patterns
I particularly like the armoured car version, the one in the middle. It has more weight and is more durable.
Rick
I tie mine on a TMC 2457 heavy wire scud hook, and they sink pretty darn fast even without split shot. Then again I usually fish them as a dropper behind a bugger or something else heavy.
It’s just a matter of taking one thing at a time - put the bead on the hook first, then make your first wrap over the vernille behind it, then run your thread forward a few turns and butt the bead up against the wraps and just pull the thread around ahead of the bead and make a few wraps to tighten the bead in place, pull the vernille over the bead, and make your second set of wraps wherever you want, then whip finish.
OR,
You could just thread the bead onto the Vermille, thread the hook through the bead (yep, it’ll fit) then tie it onto the hook (two wraps and a whip behind the bead, two wraps and a whip in front), and be done.
At least, that’s how I’ve always done it…never saw a recipe for it…just wanted deeper with some flash, and this works…
Buddy
Ditto with Buddy. That’s how I make them and they work great.
Kelly.
Thanks Buddy and Kelly, I will try that method tonight.
Yeah! Me, too. Lots easier than my method.
