Beach snook report

I took Curtis Boggs of Indiana out on Wednesday. It was his first saltwater fly fishing trip. Conditions weren’t good: rough surf and dirty water.

I took him to spot I knew should hold fish. He missed a couple of fish, then connected with a 20-incher. His second fish was a beauty. I saw it try to eat the cast before. On the second cast, Curtis hooked up. After a really good fight, he landed the 30-inch snook. He lost one equally as big or perhaps a little larger. He almost had the fish on the beach when he broke the tippet.

He added another small fish a little later.

I all, he landed three snook, lost three and had several other follows.

He was using 6-weight, sinktip line, 10-pound fluoro tippet, 20-pound fluoro shock and D.T. Special.
