I’m not from the States and I didn’t know John personally, but I’m sorry to hear about John passing away. I was in several swaps with John and I have a fly that I would like to send to this swap - Flamethrower salmon fly. Let me know if you can wait for 2 weeks for it to arrive.
My condoulences on the loss of John to his family.
My heart dropped when I heard of Bassman’s passing. Like many others I never had the chance to meet him, but I looked forward to being in swaps with him. I always knew I would be recieving great quality flies from him. He will be dearly missed. Count me in with a Universal Nymph.
I considered John one of my best friends here on FAOL. He always encouraged everyone one to join a swap and helped them with tying. He always had kind words for everyone’s fly’s even the ugly ones I used to send. I never met him in person but knew him preaty well. I know his love for his family was his number one priority and his fly tying came second. I just got a email from him last week. I am shocked to say the least. John knew I loved my steelhead fishing so I am tying a polor shrimp on a number 4 salmon hook. Blue I will need your address again thanks.
I should be caught up now. Thanks again to everyone for signing up for this one. I really hope that this brings just a bit of cheer to John’s family.
I have to say that even though this is the first day of the swap, it is already the best and the worst swap I’ve ever put together. It is a sad thing, but the FAOL community never ceases to amaze me with its actions and reactions. You are all a credit to the sport and I would love to meet each and every one of you streamside some day.
I can answer that one… I was in another of John’s classes last Monday evening. He was talking about the hare’s feet and how large they were compared to what he’d seen previously. He’d tried them out earlier in the day. He was certainly thrilled to get them!
