Bass Fishers

What does Viagra have to do with fishing?
The stiffer the rod, the… oh, nevermind.

Goddess you just plain handed that one to him on a silver platter. LOL

Fly Goddess,

They get ‘paid’, either with cash or products, to wear all that stuff, just like the car drivers do.

At the lower levels of the sport (maybe right at the lower third of the top 100), guys who really love to do it are struggling to make ends meet so that they can afford to stay fishing full time. They make lots of deals to make or save money.

Looks ridiculous, I’ll admit, but who cares what it looks like if it lets you live your ‘dream’?

You should have seen my one seventh of a ton decked out in a chartruese jumpsuit…

Good Luck!

Buddy

  1.

FG,

You probably missed a short lived program called On the Pole. The plot summary was this, 2 NASCAR drivers go fishing with a BASS Pro. Say what you want about the look those Bubbas know how to get 'er done and have a good time doing it. I hope this lowers your cabin feaver.

…on the pole.
Another easy one handed my direction.

Fly Goddess,
The NASCAR drivers have a lot more advertising space on their cars, than the Bass Anglers boats. That is why they WEAR the advertising.
Doug

Good point. Did you ever see a tournament bass boat on it’s trailer however? Basically the whole boat is covered in a cool-looking “wrap” that is one huge advertisement.

Fly Goddess, you really need to get out if your watching bass tournies. lol. Of course, on those nasty winter days, i’ve done the same. Purty fish, purty fish. lol.

The funny thing about all this, and I do mean funny is look us (fly fisheman and fly fisherwomen) every piece of clothing we have has a label on it ie., Simms, Sage, Filson and so on. Well, isn’t that advertising, isn’t selling a product to those who don’t have it yet? Granted, usually nothing in flourescant colors, but sponsoring something right? I think they might have the right idea. A boat that is paid for. A outfit that should be paid for by someone else and prize money to go along with the circus. No one should take offense to any one person’s opinion, just laugh about the things humans do. We really are funny.

I used to own a Bass Boat. I was curious, did I have what it took to be a tournament fisherman??
A guy I knew suggested that it would be a idea to visit a tournament and observe what went on. I went, observed and came to the conclusion that I didn’t have what it took. There was NO WAY that I could turn my hobby from something relaxing and enjoyable, to something like WORK!
It takes a special person to be a tournament fisherman. I have often thought that you have to be deadly determined in a quiet way, kind of like golf.
Doug

Doug, please!

Golf is the other 4 letter word.

Is this the point where somebody chirps up and tells FG that it was 60 here yesterday? And overcast? And that she should have been here YESTERDAY with a fly rod? No? Sorry.

Ed

  1. While I cut my teeth on trout I now live in OKlahoma which is primarily a warmwater fishery. I am glad I do not make a living fishing for bass, because it is actually a lot of fun to get away from people and catch bass on a fly rod without jumpsuits
patches or fast(read loud) boats and crowds. I can’t imagine fly fishing in competition, not even the “One Fly”, but then that is just me.

I’d like to see some of our tackle manufacturers sponsor a fly rodder in the Bassmaster Tournament. It would be a hoot to see the competition and make a cool contrast.

Besides, fishing bass with the fly rod is quire a hoot. Especially in a float tube. Any fish caught in a tube is fun.

I like the idea, too. BASS has a max rod length of 7.5 feet which would have to be observed in sanctioned events. Also that drags our beloved sport down to the level mere competitive events. Maybe head to head exhibition matches would be better.

Just 2 cents.
