Barred hackle?

Really wanting to pick up one of Collins barred dry fly hackles but I’m torn on color. I’ve got all the basic colors… Black, ginger, cream, dun, brown, grizzly but nothing barred(besides grizzly).
I’m thinking about a barred ginger or brown maybe? Any suggestions? I’m ready to flip a coin.

I don’t like my current brown cape to much but I’m kind of leaning towards a ginger just cause they look so sweet.

All the barred hackle I’ve bought from Charlie has been great. The ginger is very nice, the barred cream is like a washed out cree - it gets used on a lot of my flies. Don’t think you can go wrong whatever you choose.

Scott

I would have to say Ditto to Scott. He stole my thoughts.

Hey Scott if by chance you get a second can you take a picture of the barred cream, gots me interested

Here is a Barred Dunn.

Can’t say anything about Collins’ hackle but I have some Whiting dark barred ginger necks that are wonderful - the closest thing to Cree you can find.

I thought about going that route but I’ve been wanting to try Collins. I do like whiting stuff though

Here you go

I got the cape at a show so I had a chance to pick through Charlie’s stuff and find what I was looking for; they were all pretty much the same but there were differences. Tell him what you want and I’m sure he’ll try to get it for you.

Scott

Collins barred duns are some of my favorites. I really like the dark barred duns. I think I have four of them.

All of mine have come from shows as well. He really does offer some different shades.

Thanks for the replies and pictures, any one have experience with the whiting pro grade stuff? Did a little research on them but didn’t find a ton of reviews.

As it happens, I have a Whiting Pro Grade in barred cream. Very nice cape, the 10 line is higher up than the Collins and the feathers are longer.

Scott

Pro grade from Whiting is great, like the rest of their lines. A silver grade Whiting cape will give you more feathers, and will cost less per fly. But if you’re not tying dozens of flies of a certain color each day, and want a range of different colors Pro Grade is an excellent choice!

I have been tying with some barred capes from Whiting in the Hebert-Miner line in barred cream and barred light ginger.
I really like the value of even their Tier’s grade. A Catskill Cream Variant (Art Flick) using a barred cream IMHO has been as good as an Elk Hair Caddis even if mine don’t float as well.
