BANNED...again!

Well, I managed to get myself banned from an east coast steelhead fishing site (you can figure out which one it is for yourself) for the SECOND time in the same year. Something I’m not really proud of, but it happens. I can’t for the life of me figure why people don’t like to intelligently debate issues without turning it into name-calling session, and to begin attacking people instead of issues. I certainly appreciate the posters on FAOL who know how to debate an issue, and rarely, if ever, have I seen a post turn into an attack on another member for their viewpoint. Those of you who know me know that I am really a gentle spirit and generally non-confrontational, so you can imagine how they pushed my buttons until I snapped. :roll:

Just for the record, I did tell the Moderator (via PM) something about cranial rectal inversion, and invited him out to the Wal-Mart parking lot of his choosing to settle the score…8weight fly rods casting to a 50’ target…best out of three casts. I chose Wal-Mart because that’s where he buy’s his baitfishing equipment for steelhead fishing. (anyone can catch steelhead with a gob of skein or a bag of eggs) Sheeesh, talk about unreasonable. His response was having my IP banned so I can’t even LOOK at the postings.

Anyway, the prodigal son has returned to FAOL full time until my son can get me another dynamic IP and another screen name to get back into the fight. (you don’t think I’m taking this lying down, do you?

Have a really nice day. I feel so much better getting this off my chest.

I Remain,

Joseph the Meek

Joseph The Meek …

We are here for you… I am shocked anyone would do that to you :roll: :roll: :roll:

Joe,

Don’t know if it’s contagious or just something to do with the name "Joe? but I too got tossed from a board, although my offense could have been somewhat greater. I had the audacity to question the boards self proclaimed autocrat who was brokering a deal on some hard to get black powder cartridge rifle brass as to why it had taken three months to send me the stuff I’d paid for. He mailed it after I got thrown off but still came up a dozen pieces short on the order. When I e-mailed him about it I was still the bad guy. I’m trying hard to be a good guy here.

I can only mirror what you’ve said regarding FAOL. As long as your conduct is that of a gentlemen or women, as the case may be, we seem to do fine. Sorry about your luck.

I have come to the conclusion that anyone with the name of Joe and is from Ohio must be a troublemaker. :lol: :lol: :lol:

JoeB,

The loss is to the new people who come to the bulletin boards, and are filled with the puffery and chest thumping of the self-proclaimed experts, instead of receiving good information. When the Moderators are part of the crime, you know you don’t have a leg to stand on. In this case the Moderator has a vision problem (but can still see well enough to fish), and his coherts drive him to all the fishin holes and watering holes. That’s a no-win if you’re not “Driving Miss Daisy.” (hey, that was pretty good! LMAO)

Joseph the Disenchanted

Tyrone, it’s a gift. Nothing more, nothing less. Simply a gift.
(We try to not to flaunt it, but we don’t hide it, either.)

Joseph the Humble

Hey, Joe, you numba 1, Joe! :wink: Stay here on FAOL cause it sure beats that numba 10 Cheap Charlie site. 8) You are a good guy. Stay here at your home, FAOL, with us. :smiley:

Joe;
I know you to be a soft spoken intelligent person which is contrary to my opinion of most egg sack tossing Steelhead fisherman. You just don’t fit the profile! But, you fit here very well.

Thank you, Jack. I have taken it upon myself to convert the heathen spin & pin fisher away from their evil & wicked ways, that they might see the light of the most gentle form of fishing ever created for the majestic steelhead. As you know, it’s an uphill battle with stones bouncing off my armor daily, but I will continue to preach the message and endure the chastisement from the misguided. Help me to be strong in my quest for righteousness.

Joseph the Gentle

Joe
I’ll spot your car anytime.

Joe

The newer people on that site will miss out on your insight and I?ll miss your ?no fear? retorts to the chest thumpers. I?m glad you invited me to this site. Lots of info and no bashing. Very refreshing.

Welcome to FAOL, diamonddawg. Glad you found this site to be everything I told you it would be. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, cuz you’ll get no-nonsense answers. At FAOL we realize that everyone has a first day at everything, and we want you to enjoy your fly fishing experience. You’ll meet a lot of great people here.

Joe

:lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: Thanks, buddy! Sorry I wasn’t able to make the Mini…will try a little later in October and give you a holler ahead of time.

Joe

Diamonddawg;
Welcome aboard. if you know joe than you know us all!

Joe,

In our defense, the great names we were blessed with and our relative geography might be factors as TyroneFly pointed out. It could be our Mediterranean heritage. But I more inclined to believe it’s our relative intolerance of folks that just can’t or won’t be reasoned with no matter how indisputable the facts may be.

I’ll tilt at windmill with you anytime. I’ll be happy to sing in the choir and dance in the aisles as you wrestle the heathens and bring them into the light of fly fishing salvation, can I get an AMEN!

AMEN, brother…AMEN!

I can’t help but get a feeling of elitism reading your post as well as a couple others. While prefer to fly-fish I do not put others down for fishing other ways as long as they follow the rules and treat the fish with respect. The holier than thou attitude of fly-fishing being the only way and bashing others is the very reason why some are so turned off to fly fishing.

These the the ones that jumped out at me.

“I chose Wal-Mart because that’s where he buy’s his baitfishing equipment for steelhead fishing. (anyone can catch steelhead with a gob of skein or a bag of eggs)”

“I have taken it upon myself to convert the heathen spin & pin fisher away from their evil & wicked ways, that they might see the light of the most gentle form of fishing ever created for the majestic steelhead.”

“I know you to be a soft spoken intelligent person which is contrary to my opinion of most egg sack tossing Steelhead fisherman.”

Why is it that some feel the need to bash others? This is the main thing that really irks me about some who fly fish.

Just my two cents . . .

Joe & Joe;
Being of Viking and & Irish heritage tilting at windmills comes naturally! Too bad God invented whiskey. Otherwise the Irish would rule the World!!

Jeff,

Thanks for your observation, but I assure you this post is written with tongue firmly planted in cheek. I actually have pictures posted on FAOL with fish caught with the spinning rod I built this summer. You and I have not had the opportunity to meet, but most of the folks in this thread know me and realize we are just having a good laugh. I’m sorry if I offended you or gave the impression of being an elitist fly fisher…nothing could be further from the truth, especially after meeting or interacting with me for awhile.

While it may appear that I/we have gone too far with our joking, we must also realize that we cannot give the impression of being stuffed shirts who never act irreverently on occasion. I guess it’s a fine line we walk in having a good time and being concerned that we may offend someone. It’s a fact that we’ll NEVER please everyone no matter how hard we try, so we just move on with life and try to have a good time when we can. If I offend anyone then I apologize, but I’m also not going to walk on eggs so that does not ever happen. There will always be someone who takes exception with anything that is posted here.

Hope that clears it up for you.

Joe

P.S. I realize that you sell hooks to all fishermen, and that you are in a unique position to promote all forms of fishing. I hope that does not enter into your criticism of this thread, when you consider that this IS a fly fishing website dedicated to promoting fly fishing. There will always be a thread of irreverence for other forms of fishing, because that’s who we are. It’s not malicious, it’s just humor.

God provided the grain…the Irish (and others) found a way to make it a happy drink.

Joe
