Bank Of America and anti-fishing group

Copied with permission of original author:

“I was furious late last week when I went into my bank and saw them promoting the Humane Society of the United States Credit Card Program (no this is not the folks at your local shelter). If you make purchases on these cards, the Anti’s receive money from the Bank Card program to shut down fishing and hunting.
So…I wrote the CEO of the Bank of America and made him aware that the HSUS was dedicated to ending Fishing,Hunting,Medical Research Labs, the Circus, eating meat etc…I sugessted that if Sportsmen,Researchers of AIDS,etc.,local eating establishments ,markets etc…decided to boycott B.O.A. that the cash they are making on their venture with the Anti’s might be negated.
Today I received a call from one of his minions (Andrea) 1-800-441-7048 Ext.78277.Basically she told me that despite the fact that I have a problem with the Anti moment, that the Bank of America will continue to promote their products in their lobbies due to a “business relationship” they both have. Once again I explained that I have a hard time watching “my” bank promote an Anti Group in their lobby (not to mention the PETA demo they had out in front of their bank when the circus came to town) whose primary focus is to end my weekend passion and stop the research necessary to cure certain diseases (research labs testing with animals on everything from aids to cancer). She was very nice in telling me that the Bank of America doesn’t care and supports their relationship with the Anti’s and will continue to promote their movement via the card and promotional displays. So…I will remove my funds from B.O.A. and establish them elsewhere.I will encourage others to do the same and ask that you all consider whether you want to do business with those who would allign themselves with such a group. Thanks Jack Hanley
P.S. Feel free to let them know why…it’s as easy as dialing the 800 #.”

Minion: Follower or servent. Allen, I onced accused you of always being in the thick of things, well if what your are printing here is true, then I am very grateful you brought this to my attention. I’m not going to call the number, I will take your word for it. Like anything dealing with business and money, if enough people stand up and be counted, changes can be made. Unfortunately, like the SUV TV add showing it treading through mountain streams post a while back, the reply from the Auto Maker was typical and double talk. Only when their pocket book is affected will any challange win out. Banking is a very highly competive business and in some cases they will go to tremendous extremes to lure a customer in. It is intereting, I received a mailer from BOA and it is here on my desk asking for my business. I will return the post paid envelope with a note of my disatisfaction for their Anti-Peta endorsements and financial assistance. Thank you again, Jonezee

Allan,

FYI:

If you get a new bank and CC-consider that REI (Recreational Equipment Inc), who is a great retailer of super cool outdoor gear and also offers handsome rebates each year to members…well they are major sponsors of the Sierra Club. Another Eco-Nazi org that is eliminating man’s influence on nature at an alrming rate.

One has to be carefull where one shops and spends if one wants the dollars to speak towards your outdoor passions.

Rich

Thanks for the info on B of A Allan. I was going to switch to them because of problems with my present bank. Now the old bank don’t look so bad.

Rocky

Try a Credit Union Rocky, In my opinion they focus on local people with local needs. I think the last thing a Credit Union would want is to spend theirs and yours hard earned money helping people who want a hand out and IMO don’t really understand the cause they are trying to support. I sometimes wonder how many blue collar, know the value of a dollar, kids need shoes folk are on those Peta-Anti rosters? THey are usually singles without a life, no children individuals that are looking for a nitch in life. This has been happening since the beginning of time and it won’t change in our lifetime. I just ignore them and work hard at supporting the causes that are important to me. Like the old saying goes. Bad politicians are voted in by good people who don’t vote, just as Peta-Anti will prevail because good people don’t stand up and support a cause that may be in the best interest of the animals and our planet in general. You won’t see me carrying signs in front of the White House but I will do all I can to keep them from harming my livelyhood and my recreation.

Guys,

You may have misread my post.

I DID NOT write the initial post. It was written by someone else on another fly fishing bulletin board. I copied it here with permission from the original author.

Allan

I have had many problems with BOA. They have more hidden charges than any other institition I know. I have been in banks and credit unions over the years. I will now just transfer all my funds…yeah, like I have any…transfer my money movement to my credit union and say good bye to BoA.

Gemrod

I am also a Credit Union fan. I used to sit on the Credit Committee & Board of ours. They have grown, but still local. Can’t beat 'em IMO.
Mike

I love my credit union. Can’t beat their returns and loan rates. There isn’t a “bank” in our area that treats us with such respect and great service as my credit union. Mike hit the nail right on the head. Credit unions care more about you the person and not just how many accounts we can have open.

Tye: You beat me to it.

Boycott time.

Little history on the “Bank of America”. Before WWII, “Bank of America” was known as “Bank of Japan in America”. Of course, after December 7th 1941, they decided to change their bank name.

PS: Oldfrat: I guess the history channel on cable, and the corporate records of California are wrong then. (8/13/06)

Stephen, I’m afraid you’ve been misinformed. It was founded by an Italian immigrant and the name Bank of America has been around since the late 1920’s.

I say “the name” because there have been so many mergers and acquisitions that the current BOA has so little of the original BOA’s DNA. The name survived, though, as they liked the descriptive nature of a nation-wide bank.

Olfrat is correct on the origon of BOA.

Allen, I know you didn’t write it but as Confucius say: “Without the messenger, there is no letter”.

I am also a credit union fan, when I borrowed money for a used Dodge diesel a couple of months ago they beat my local bank by 3 percent.Besides being thankful for me choosing them. The loan officer talked to me more about fly fishing than he did the loan.Kind of refreshing to me.

Jonezee I was going to use the Wood Products Credit Union here in town a few years back but when all the mills started shutting down they closed their doors and left town. There is a new Community Credit Union close by but I have heard of some bad experiences there from some people at work. We have a new Federal Credit Union going up here in town and I may try them when they open their doors.

Rocky

Rocky, there is good and bad in all things, even credit unions. The best thing is to sit down with the bank manager, ask him or her their stragety for helping you and the community and what their long term goals are. Ask them how they invest their, yours money. I trust you can make a good decision from a conversation like that. They will be impressed and treat you like the person you deserve to be treated like rather than just another guy depositing a paycheck.

Criminey, That’s bad news about BOA. Then on the other hand, our credit union has been changing thru the years until it is now Viewpoint Bank.
Wonder how I’m gonna talk my wife into changing Banks…we’ve banked in the same location thru four different banks(30 something years)…yep, they sell out or get stomped into oblivion by larger banks thru takeovers.

Another Eco-Nazi org that is eliminating man’s influence on nature at an alrming rate.

Eco-Nazi? Isn’t that a little offensive? tyeflies’ grandkids read this board and now he’s going to have to explain nazis, environmentalists, birkenstocks, and gas chambers to them. I hope you’re happy.

If you don’t like a clean and healthy environment move to southern California, man has influenced nature nicely there.
