Bamboo Co Info

Has anyone dealt with Headwaters Bamboo Rod Co. Hillsboro OR.? And if so,has your buying experience been good or bad?
Spring is alllllmost here.

Thanks all
Mike

I hesitated to post this, and I hope JC and LF approve of my doing so, or at least don’t dissaprove, but I suggest you post your question [url=http://www.westfly.com/forum/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=4:97f9b]here[/url:97f9b] in the Oregon forum at Westfly. Considering that most all of the members and regular posters there live in OR it seems like you’ll have a better shot at finding folks experienced with that particular builder there.

Mike E,

Don’t live in Oregon, but I did have one last year, the 7’ 4wt. and, for the summer, I had a baaaall!!! That was my first contact with bamboo and from that experience, almost shelled out some ungodly price for a “name” brand.

But, as luck would have it, toward the end of summer, a nice sized gill latched onto my fly and took off…snapping the rod in half at the ferrule. I called the company, explained what happened, was told that I only had two (2) options…send it back and they would send me a new rod, or send it back and they would send me a full refund. In about 10 days I deposited a check for the full refund amount including shipping.

Not a bad policy…3 months of enjoyment at no cost! Could have been a fluke…after all, the Chinese have been using bamboo for scaffolding and food way before any of our “masters” started making rods. You see a few honest members here that will tell you of the “big boys’” graphites breaking, and probably many more that keep their mouths shut about snaps and sets.

Take a look at the Elkhorn or Diamondback offerings…they’re a lot more costly than the Headwaters, but nothing near, blah, blah, blah. (diplomacy inserted)and then you’d know if you were willing to remortgage…

It is a different “feel”…but, not worth $3-5 grand to me.
