Paul,
I thought you and all the goat lovers would love this story; http://www.kgw.com/news-local/stories/kgw_060308_animal_goat_trimet_bus.58e6e3bb.html
Doug
Cute little bugger!
Maybe she just wanted to go shopping?
Doug, you beat me to the punch! That little girl was adopted from our ranch a year ago. Like the article said, “she’s a pygmy”, or better yet “An African Pygmy” and we have 21 more of them here just like her and in various colors.
“Getting out of the gate”, is something we warn all prospective adoptive families about!! Goats, are very misaligned, as to their intelligence, cleanliness and companionship. They actually, have the same mental capacity and intelligence as the smarter of the canine breeds.
If they watch a person opening a gate to their pen, such as a “drop latch”, they usually only need to see it a few times, before they figure out a way to flip the latch themselves.
On one our pasture gates, we had a dog leash style spring clip to couple a chain and keep the gate closed. “Simon”, one of our males, soon learned exactly where to clamp that clip with his teeth and thus open the gate whenever he wanted to “go visit the girls”.
Linda, and I,still on occasion and when asked to do so… take a couple of our “Pygmies” up to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, to entertain the children. They “dance” on their hind feet, play fetch with the children, “Talk” when the children talk to them and of course, love all the petting and attention.
Surprisingly, many of our retirement centers, here on the coast and in Portland, also have asked Linda and I to "bring the goats to socialize with the elderly patients". So many,of the more elderly patients often tell us: "I remember when I was a little girl/boy, on the farm and had a goat like this one, too!"
These little goats can be house broken, (it DOES take a rather “large” little box seriously!) and many of our adoptive families have done so. They love to ride in cars and trucks, (and on Tri-Met obviously!) and two men I know, take their pet goats fly fishing with them, when stream and river fishing.
Sorry, I know this is " A LOT MORE", than anyone "wanted to know about goats" but it's YOUR FAULT, Douggie!
Haa, haa, doesn’t surprise me one bit that one of flybinder’s goats would cause such a commotion.;)
Watchyo’ tal’kin 'bout, Eric?
Now, that’s a face only a Mother could love!!
