I was cruising the MRFC.com clearance section and saw this pack on sale for $69.95. If I was in the market for this type pack, I would jump on it.

I use a couple of packs, depending on where I am going. If I have to take a lot of stuff, I use my old Marine ALICE pack. I can tell you from experience, you can live out of an ALICE forever. For moving fast and light, like on my bicycles, I use one of several daypacks I got from Walmart for around $14.00. For the money, they can’t be beat. For extended long hikes, like over-night, and when I don’t want the weight of my full ALICE Pack (50+ pounds, easily), I have a hunting pack I also got at Walmart, that holds everything I need for an overnight trip, or even for a few days of roughing it, and it even straps on my Kayak. I seldom use a tent, so that saves a lot of space. I mostly use my Jungle Hammock, or a Bivy Sack to sleep in, or sometimes, I just sleep on the ground. I get my food in the woods, and purify water from the streams, if I use up my 4 canteens worth. I don’t take much with me, preferring “In-Country” supply as much as possible. If I needed to, I can make a shelter from local materials.
Aside from my fishing rod, and flies, the most important thing I carry is several knives. As long as I have them, I can deal with anything that comes up. And, in an emergency, I do know how to flint-knap…
I was in Orvis and I saw the Gale Force Backpack. I really like it, as I can also use it for walking around Manhattan. It’s pricey, I might just wait until I can afford it.

I just picked up a Kelty Roam from Target for $20.00. Thats 50% off. I already have a larger model Kelty which has done well but for $20.00 I bought a spare. Just my 2 cents.
The Kelty looks great, especially for the money. As it turns out, I found the Orvis Gale Force on sale, so I pulled the trigger, though I might soon regret spending the big bucks, but I guess sometimes, with all of life’s disappointments, when we see something we really want we should go for it. Besides, at my age it will probably be the last back pack I ever buy.
I like Multi-Purpose packs…because I engage in activities other than Fly Fishing…Check out these pack systems…and they are made in Bozeman, MT…![]()

Those are some interesting backpacks.

I’m an “old guy” (60) and I really question a pack that starts off with an empty weight of 5 or 6 pounds. Especially for a day pack. I used to wear a cruiser that weighed 6.5. At my age, I can’t carry the d**n thing any more. My current loaded pack weighs 35 pounds for a five day trip. Includes food and water. (about 37 for snow and 39 for bear country).
Body Armor? Just what are those other activities?
Among other things, going out in the middle of nowhere carrying water, cameras and other “stuff” - looking for these:

Dunfly,
After seeing those backpacks I would not have asked your question.
When I need backpack capacity, I carry a camelbak fourteener. I can throw all my flyboxes in there as well as have plenty of water for the day.
