Backing to fly line.

I use an Albright but have seen three different ways of doing one:

  1. http://www.animatedknots.com/albright/index.php Just wrapping from reel end of fly line down toward tippet
  2. http://www.marinews.com/Albright-Knot-221.php Wrapping from tippet end toward reel then back towards tippet
  3. Mark Sosan’s way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s40lmqVux4E&NR=1

Having said that I do use an Albright and I usually don’t change spools but rather different reels I am still considering the toop to loop type connections.

I like these loops but I have also seen them fail and I don’t want to lose my sinking tip fly line, where do you get the braided mono for this? What I like the most about it is that you can replace lines very easily.
Thanks

I use Gudebrod 50lb braided leader butt material for 7wt and heavier lines and 35lb for lighter lines. You can also use Cortland braided shooting line but most anglers prefer the tighter weave of the Gudebrod product.

Bob marriotts has the Cortland braided shooting line and I’m sure other shops do too. I don’t see the gudebrod product in Marriott’s online catalog any longer. I know Sea Level Flyfishing and Fly Fishing Specialties sell it online. It is usually less than $14 for 100ft of Cortland or 50yards of Gudebrod braid. That will make a lot of loops.

I tried the double Duncan knot and it worked fine. Now I just need to get me those loops or the braided leader and I’ll be all set.
Thanks everybody.
