Just returned from an amzing trip to the Keys and to get out of this frozen oasis in Denver!
We stayed in Islamorada for most of our stay and this was the perfect area seeing how you sit in the middle of all the best areas in the Keys.
This trip was all about Saltwater action and primarily the “Gray Ghost” Bonefish that call this place home. Unlike Andros and Ascension Bay, this areas conbtains some of the largets Bonefish in the World and this was the optimal time to give your 8 weight a workout!
Ejoy a few of these photos we took, my buddy was anti heading back to the 20" of snow in Minnesota so he stayed down for another week and unfortunately has the best pics but here is what was left on my camera…

Great to get out of the cold a bit enjoy some Key lime pie, Ahi tuna, Key west beer and oh yeah the Fishing!
We were mostly using Dorsey’s Kwan flies for the most part, funny enough our guide noted “it aint the fly, it aint the Flourocarbon stuff, it aint the kind of fancy rod you use, it’s how you get the fly in front of the Bone” tu che but I can tell you a certian type of fly will help!
What flies were you using if you don’t mind me asking? 4th weekend this month I’ll get 1 day to try my luck towards the very lower keys. it’s nice to know the bonefish are in now. any other suggestions I’ll take.
Very nice TroutDawg! I just got back from south Fla as well and the weather and fish were cooperative for us as well. Headed back down in just 2.5 weeks for another week of fishing the skinny water. Great shots as well. Nice Pinfish! Where is that shot from that shows the water in the background and the water under that bridge (afternoon cocktail shot)?
jkilroy - The Bones are pretty much always there. Bigger fish in colder months and smaller fish (on average) in warmer months. This time of year Florida Bay should be known as the Bay of Pigs! Not tons of fish but WOW are there plenty of fish over 8 pounds with fish in the 10 - 13 range common.
