Family Gives Up Pool For Fuzzy Baby Ducks

Just about any large, freshwater fish will nab a baby duck if it gets a chance but the real culprits are snapping turtles. They can actually eliminate a whole nest of baby ducks in no time at all.

The biggest killer of baby ducks up here are muskrats.
It sad to see a mother and 11 baby ducks swim by and the next day its just the mother and just 5 or 6 babies. I guess thats how the fittest survive.
On Cochron Log Pond up in the Oregon coast range while fishing for rainbows, I witnessed two full grown mallard drakes disapear just like that while swimng around the pond. I soon found out what happened, an otter was pileing them up on the opposite bank and started to feast on its dinner. I kept fishing…the otter kept eating.
I guess the Mama Duck in the backyard pool must be pretty smart!

Life is tough outside that pool and mama duck must know it all too well. 8T
I’m just glad I won’t have to clean the pool out afters.
