There seems to be a good many fly patterns for trout with a lot of orange in them. We don’t seem to have many orange insects down here in the South with which I am familiar. Are there a lot of orange bugs north of Dixie?
Jesse,
A couple I know of, Salmonflies and October Caddis, although this doesn’t look like either one of them. I’ve found it to be a good attractor color, especially for cutthroats, even if there aren’t any orange bugs around.

Scott
Not that I know of Jesse. However, there aren’t allot of purple insects either, but it’s a very popular color where I fish. Wouldn’t be without a few Purple Haze. I guess trout are like people, they eat anything that looks good.
Chuck Stranahan, a Hamilton, MT tyer/guide came up with his Brindle Chute pattern a while back for the Hecuba/Fall Drake hatch; it has an oliveish/rusty body, too.

Scott
It’s been awhile since I dusted off, and they really need it, my baitcasters, but I used to always have a few purple plastic worms with me. But, I’m not that sure about what we know about how fish see things and colors. I have always thought bream are the teenage boys of the fish world, they look at a bait and think “I can get that in my mouth.”
