Though really not a angling topic I thought members might be interested. On the Gates Lodge website which is the host for Michigan’s Fish in, they report recent cougar sightings in the Mason Tract area of the Ausable South Branch. There’s been a debate for several years now on the actual existence of them in Michigan. Michigan’s DNR did some baiting and evidence indicates a cougar or cougars are there.
I wonder why there has not been any effort to hire an experienced lion guide from out west to track one and get proof. Michigan’s DNR does not “officially " concede their existence in the state but many believe they’re"out there”. Check it out:

As long as people and livestock are not being eaten, I do not see any need to waste tax dollars confirming or denying the existence of this animal. If one is there, there are more than enough whitetail deer and wild turkeys for it to have a daily feast without bothering some fisher person.

I read a report recently that cougars have been documented as far east as eastern Pennsylvania.
They’re following the growth of the deer herds.
It is a shame we do not have some down south. Alabama has had a deer bag limit of one deer per day for some time. To many deer or not enough hunters.

Hey Roy,
I've spotted 3 of the creatures here on our property in SC over the
last couple of years. I’m sure there are a lot more in the area.Very
impressive looking animals. Warm regards, Jim
Eric D, why do you keep posting this???
I only put up one post. Only reason I did was that the info came off the Gates Lodge Website- being their are a base of operations for the fish in.
I fish the Mason Tract a lot & camp there too ( Canoe Harbor ) so I found it interesting sorry if it caused any problems
well, hope the panthers don’t getcha,
Cougars, aka: Puma, or Mountain Lion, are spreading their territory eastward. Here in Minnesota, we have had multiple Cougar sightings. One Cougar was shot in killed in Bloomington Minnesota, near the Minnesota River. In Northern Minnesota, there was a Cougar sunning itself along Minnesota Highway 6, in front of the township hall of Outing.
I have spotted a cougar on my paper route, in the eastern Twin Cities metropolitan area, in Washington County.
I have noticed that the wildlife, have started moving in to developed areas. There is some concern that the predators, may start considering the population as food.
