Hi Doug; Im going to beat Mike to the punch and say; The one thing I like about Auckland is that it is two plus hours away from Tauranga by car.[Ducking for cover] Jax
Jax,
I found this info about Tauranga;
AREA GUIDE
Tauranga is situated in the Bay of Plenty in the North Island of New Zealand. Travel to Tauranga by car is about 3 hours from Auckland, 4 hours from the North Shore, about 7 hours from the bay of Islands, and an hour from Rotorua, and home to the busy Port of Tauranga. Tauranga has first class hotel, motels, hotels, and lodging. and Mount Maunganui. Mt Maunganui is only 10 minutes away over the harbour bridge. So buy a map, look at real estate for sale, and look for jobs in Tauranga" End Quote.

Doug
Is Melbourne on that list? It would be the closest to me.
I lived in Auckland for a brief period years ago and survived. I have not stayed in Sydney longer than 3 weeks but I survived that too.
For me, the bush is better, but I guess I’m a country boy at heart Doug. Melbourne is geographically vast, laid back easy sort of place. Sydney is very fast, expensive, up market, but scenically beautiful on the harbour and all that.
Auckland is a city full of industry, tourists, thugs to rob the tourists, starving overseas students and gangs out to kill the other gangs as far as I can see. It has a very pretty harbour too, and some stunning coastline with maybe the best allround fishing to anywhere in the world (outside Ohio.)
I wonder what Mike T. and Jeff H. will say about this? :rolleyes: I’m gunna stay under cover for a while now.
Hey Guys, I am not suprised at Auckland beeing number one, It is mostly a great place to live, it has 2 fantastic harbours for fishing or boating, plenty of work and plenty to do! Of course we do have some problems but most of the thugs and muggers stick to there own areas much like anywhere else.
As for Jax yes we know that Tauranga is a lovely city with some lovely beaches but who wants to live in a city where the average age of the populace is about a hundred and three?:lol: Oh yes and those lovely beaches in Tauranga is where the thugs from South Auckland spend there summers leaving Aucklands beaches lovely and safe!
The best and worst thing in Auckland is the fishing, the sea fishing for Snapper, Kingfish, Trevally, Kahwhai etc is superb and the Hauraki Gulf is a stunningly beautifull place to cruise and fish. But to get to some good freshwater fly water is about a 2 to 3 hour drive making it a long day out.
There is some fishing closer but the good stuff is further away.
As for Sydney it has to be seen to be believed, Great fishing, lovely harbour, lovely beaches, lovely city centre but its one drawback is it is full of Australians!
Anyway, you are all welcome here in Auckland anytime!
All the best.
Mike.
