Attention: Bluegill fishermen!

There’s a fly swap going on right now that’s theme is flies that catch bluegills. I KNOW there’s a lot of folks here that love to catch 'em. Swaps are a great way to get new ideas and try some new flies. Get your tails over to the Swap board and sign up! If you’ve never done a swap before, don’t worry. All you’ve gotta do is sign up, tie some flies, and send 'em off. A week or two later, you get a fly from everyone involved in the swap. It’s a lot of fun!

Hi Zac,

Thanks for posting about the swap. I don’t read the swap section very often, and wanted to get in on a bluegill fly swap.

Your swap would have been good, but Blue hosting one should be good too. The idea for me was just to get in on a bluegill swap, and I am very much looking forward to the swap. Now I just have to figure out what to tie!

Thanks and regards,

Gandolf

Gandolf, I will probably host one later this spring or early this summer. The KS Fish-In swap was a GREAT one last year! But the number of participants is what helped…

I’m in, thanks for the heads-up Zac!

I have a serious question because I’ve never done swapping.
If you look at my article this month you’ll see a very easy fly (Bikini Spider) that is a great bluegill catcher.
But…it only takes a couple of minutes to tie.
Is that cheating? Should a swapper tie something that is complicated?
Bob

Anything is cool as long as it is a bluegill fly that you catch fish on. You’ll see everything from simple up to more complicated. Anything from mini-gurglers to woven body nymphs. If it catches fish, you aren’t cheating.
