Yesterday I attended the FFF-GLC Fly Tying Expo down in Mason, MI. To say the least it was a bit overwhelming!!
Spent some time with Joe Sprys who passed on some fly’s for the AuSable in August. (he had sent me the patterns but I need a model) He also showed me the proper way to tie in a soft hackle and how to tie a Madson’s Barber Pole.
Also visited Gaye Sorensen from Hart,MI and the West Michigan Hackler’s. She does some amazing things with foam.
Of course I spent too much money
Urses didn’t make it, I hope she’s ok. I’ll send her an email later.
If you’ve never gone to one Try It You’ll Like It!!
I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here!
Jack sorry I missed you, hope you said hello to Satchel at the Three Rivers booth as you came in the door. The man taking the money at the door is a member. It is a little overwhelming on your first visit.
I’ll hear about this–Ursus was tying. I sat in the first seat as you come in the door and away back against the wall was Ursus.
Bill;
Rainbowchasier and I looked high and low for her. Then I saw her name tag still on the table and figured she wasn’t there.
Rats!!
Met a lot of terrific people and handled a bamboo rod! Had to leave quick before I bought it.
I was there… I guess you could say I came, I saw, I tied, I watched, and yes I did make it over to Jon Ridderbos’s table and met up with a group from the board here eveidntly just after they took a group picture.
Jack… If that was Fishbum’s bambo rod you handled…I can attest…they are SWEEEEEETTT… I have a 7’6" 4wt. A real piece of art.
These are the idle thoughts that posses a man’s mind when he’s not able to fish.
It was a pleasure meeting you and a few of the other FAOL’ers. It was a fun day and a nice way to spend a cold Saturday in December when the fish aren’t hittin’ the dries!
Hopefully we’ll see more of the FAOL gang at our Club show (Midwest Fly Fishing Expo) in Warren in March . . .
