Attaching fly to tippet

RW here,

I’ve been using the improved clinch for over 40 years…maybe 50. It’s never failed me yet, and when it ain’t broke I don’t fix it.

I am a regular visitor to Fly anglersonline and I’m the webmaster of www.pechetruite.com,[/url:9b95b] I have corrected the spelling mistake, thanks Tyflier for pointing out the mistake.

I shouldn’t laugh, but neither link works. I think it is because you have included a comma at the end.

for clinch knot or improved clinch knot using forceps as suggested by BIGFLATBROOK

Should good for those cold days when your hands have five thumbs.

I like the Orvis Knot. It is small in bulk. My imperical testing has shown that it is stronger than the clinch knot. However I find it harder to tie than the clinch knot… and takes longer. I don’t do the improved clinch knot because for some strange reason it fails on me a fair amount of time.
Here is how to do the orvis knot http://www.orvis.com/orvis_assets/files/index.html[/url:69031]

Another copy/paste mistake!!

I use a clinch knot, (unimproved), five turns for sizes down to 6X, seven turns for 7X and smaller. Simple, quick, and strong, and I’ve been using it so long, I can tie it pretty much by feel.

I use the improved clinch knot. I’m 50 years old and I’ve been tying this knot since I was about 8, so I can almost do it blindfolded. I think a knot that you are comfortable with is more important than an awkward to tie knot that has maybe a little more knot strength. You are probably going to be more reluctant to change flies if you dread having to tie the knot.

Another knot that I like is called a Tweed Clinch. It’s a variation on the regular clinch that allows the tippet to come through the hook eye in a way that tends to hold the fly straighter relative to the tippet.

For loops, I like the improved perfection knot.

Been away for awhile. Thanks for accepting a contribution from an admitted lurker. Really I just reasearch topics to death on the 'net. At any rate I hope that I help. Great to fix links. And hooking up folks is just great.
