ATT Steelheaders

The Oct. Nov. Issue of Salmon-Trout-Steelhead magazine, a very long-time Sponsor here, has the most interesting article on finding fish in rivers of ice I’ve ever seen. Yes it is technical, but does it ever make sense! Title of article is Winter’s Steel Heart. Your local bookseller should have it.

LadyFisher,
I’m not a Steelheader, but I’ll look for the magazine to support a sponsor.

i don’t buy many magazines but sts is very good no nonsense mag. one of the best floating salmon fly patterns i ever found came from sts, hanks hackle flapper.

I have fished for steel in ice conditions on the rivers in PA and Ohio, and besides technical, it can be very dangerous as well. Shelf ice does not hold well, and you can find yourself in the water if the shelf gives way. Be VERY careful if you decide to try it.

My steelhead rivers don’t ice over. Thank god! Up for some cold, wind driven rain and snow while standing in 38 degree water? Anyone? I will still give the article a look. Many steelhead techniques and methods are transferable from river to river.

If I can swing it, I will fish it.

I fly fish for steelhead with a 2 handed rod.

I’m 110% with you on that one Joe. I put my steelhead rods away when the shelf ice appears. I hate that stuff. The things you learn the hard way when you’re a kid!!!
