Have you pulled all your equipment from it’s winter home and done inventory to see what you may need? Cleaned your fly lines, check your reels, clean out your vest, chest pack, etc and planned your trips? Have you gotten the rust off of your casting skills by doing some lawn casting. Tied or bought flies that you will need?
I am ready, actually I have been fishing a fair amount due to a mild winter so I did not put away all my gear.
It’s time to get ready, get set and GO!

I fish as much in the winter as in the summer. A good year for me is 100 days (or part days) on the water. not all is fly fishing. and some of the water is hard. but 100 days a year keeps me sain. As for my casting… the older I get the easier I seem to rust.
Are you kidding? I’m always ready. No such thing as a “winter’s home” for my gear. Living in the western US I can fish 365 days a year, so it’s a matter of constant vigilance. Never let my guard down so I am ready to hit the river or lake at the drop of a hat!
And, the best part is, since I fish all year I don’t have to worry about my casting stroke ever getting rusty.
I really have no “down-season”. Just a winter/spring, summer-fall seasons with a changing of the flies I carry in my vest.
I’ve managed 5 out of the last 10 days on the water–yesterday on a small lake with hailstones beating down on me and the tube. Fishing was good though.
I do “check” everything in the spring though to make sure all the lines are ready for the summer-fall season.

One more rod to go! My livingroom looks like a flyshop! Got lots of Dots to pass out to my friends.
Trips have been planed for months! First on April 28th to the Little Manistee for the opener on the 30th (It’s open year round) Working on menus now. Friday night fish fry (we take our own), Saturday night deep fried wild Turkey.
Tying flys this afternoon (class) and yard casting later.
Not even close. Broke my hand in June and spent 8 weeks in a cast, went through PT and got the go ahead to do whatever I wanted. Sure Ok NOT, first time out fell and rebroke the same damned hand only worse. When they took the cast off and xrayed it to do a check it wasn’t healing so back on went the cast. Finally got it off and just finished PT again. Tried to tie a fly BIG NOT the hand just ain’t where it should be yet so I"m gonna have to dip into the surplus to start the season so I should be okay for a while.
I am ready to wet line. I bought a new fly rod last month, a Sage SLT. I am tying like a mad man. My brother and I are getting ready to head for the Sierras to do some serious fishing!
been fishing all winter. gotta love those 365 day long seasons…
i am very excited about getting to some of the wild trout c & r waters that close for the winter. cant wait to fish an evening caddis hatch on hot creek. 20 fish bigger than 14" in 2 hours is a good way to end the work day .
been fishing for about 45 days so far this year…already did the trip from hell…broke a rod on a fish (reddington) fell down a rather large hill (real steep)…got lost climed up the wrong hill (big time steep) only to have to climb back down and up the right hill( bigger time steep)…cought lots of steelhead…going to be a rather interesting rest of the year
Are you kidding with this . I have pulled out all my gear and checked it weekly ever since ice up . Finally ice off is here . hoorah !
Fatman sorry about your hand , twice .Maybe all your bad luck is used up for this year and fishing will be great for ya , hope so .
