Are You Ok ?

Flybinder,
Not to take away from Robert. But are you OK? You mentioned that you were having problems yourself. We all hope that you are OK and nothing serious is in front of you. Well either way, I’m sure I can say “WE ARE ALL HEAR YOU NEED US” may the Almighty look after you.
From the Island Nation of Ohio

Paul,
How about it? Are you alright?

I looked and looked at this post, wondering exactly how to answer it!!?!
I have MANY fantastic and close, family members on this site and some of you already know of my health situation.
I’ve never just “posted the facts”, here, as there seems to be always someone else in the group that’s far worse off than I am, and of course Harley Bob’s son, Robert comes immediately to mind I suppose.

However, I’ve also been questioned (in private emails and via the PM system here, about “my double meaning postings” and “subtle hints” I’ve posted lately, concerning health issues among those that have them and my own).

So, so as to NOT keep making myself appear; “any weirder than I already am thought to be”,(something, I suppose, I’m proud of because I was born in the Island Nation of Ohio, but did manage to escape in time), I’ll bring my health issues to light here, so there’s no more questions to my postings!?!

Last December 23rd. after months of tests, procedures and comments by me to the effect of “DANG, Doc, your hands are COLD!”… I was given (roughly), 18 to 24 months, before the inoperable cancer I have, begin to shut down the “major organ groups” in the body. “Major Organ Groups”, being those handy things we all have, like “heart, lungs, liver, kidneys and left bicep”.

No, I have not “rolled over and given up”, and I’m currently taking some “let’s try THESE and see how they effect him”, medications, in my fight to either beat this thing or make my team of doctors even richer than they already are.
When this current series of tests and medication are over with, there’s something like a gazillion more they can try, so no telling what will happen next!?

Those friends, here at FAOL that have known about this since I also first learned about it, have been an unbelievable crutch for me to lean on so far. I’ll never be able to thank them of course, and they know who they are.
I surely hope, too, that no one’s offended, because I haven’t posted all of this before or feel they were “not friends enough, to be told all of this in the beginning”.
That was NOT my intent, at all, and I’m sorry if anyone feels that way now.
But, you also must understand, two things… one… those that knew at the start, also “knew me well enough, to write or call and insists that I tell them what was up”, because they saw a change in me that I wasn’t even aware of.
Secondly, it’s not very easy to send ANYONE an email, PM or make a phone call and start it off with “Hey! Guess what? I went fishing and oh, by the way, I’m also dying! So, what’ve you been up to, and what’s new, with you?”

Like I said, I have a lot of family on this site. I hope you ALL know and understand, that I did not intend to leave anyone “out” or offend any friendships by keeping this condition quiet for so long.

Thank you, all, for your understanding, caring and friendship.
Paul Wilmoth, aka-flybinder-aka-St.Paul The Highly Confused and other names I go by, that can’t be printed on a family web site…

Hi Flybinder,

Here’s hoping that some of those try me meds works for you. Thanks for sharing. We’re all pulling for you.

  • Jeff

Ok folks, now that you’ve heard it from the “horse’s mouth” (I THINK that’s the right end!), let’s “OD” Paul with prayers…we all know what miracles have been worked with the help of FAOLer’s prayers, don’t we?
Paul has very selflessly put other’s needs ahead of his own & he is a VERY valued FAOL family member…let’s keep him around awhile. He truly lends credence to my FAOL signature.
Mike

Paul,
I pray for you always. Hey, my dad used to say “We’re in pretty good shape for the shape we’re in”. Besides, if you don’t get better I am going to fly out there and beat you with an 8wt, 9’, 2 piece graphite.;)

Hey Paul, hope all goes well with the meds, will be as Jeff said “Pulling for you”.
All the very best.
Mike.

I had hoped to meet you at the fish in this year so we could compare notes Alas it was not to be. So You have to come to next years Central Washington fish in to make up for it.

Your always in my prayers buddy, for as long as it takes.

Too brittle. That’s a job for FIBERGLASS!!

Paul (May I call you Paul?)

I had read of your condition in other posts, and, while not one of the “Inner Circle” I have been quietly, in my own way pulling for your continued health.
You touch many, many more people on this site than you know about. Your quiet fortitude (Well, maybe not THAT quiet!) and never give up attitude have helped me, and I’m sure others, through a few difficult days.
My health is fine, I’m talking about those days we all get where Life just ain’t quite Right.
Given the burden you bear, and the grace with which you do so, you ARE an inspiration to us all.

From the bottom of my heart,
Thank You,

Kirk Barnes

Paul,
All I can say is I know how to pick my friends. You are such a special person and I appreciate you! (even if your confused)
Doug

Dave

Darned right you do. Lets see, just to name a few there is: flybinder, Ohiotuber, Jack Hise, Joe V., Betty Hiner and, yours truly, the Nighthawk! Oh boy, talk about a touched…err…I mean touching group.:lol:

There you go with the Freudian slip again. :stuck_out_tongue:

The great thing about having flybinder as a friend is knowing that when you talk to him you will always get uplifted and get your chops busted as well.

As Paul said, in spite of his current condition and prognosis, there is always someone else who is worse off, and he has chosen to focus his efforts on making the lives of others a little bit easier, rather that to sit back and have a pity party for himself (deserved or not). We all have crosses to carry, and the true measure of a person is how often they step forward to help carry the other person’s cross, ignoring the weight of their own. My friend, St. Paul the Confused, is that kind of guy, and I’m looking forward to “tossing back a few” with him at the MIFI. We will toast life and all the crap it throws at us, then spit right in the eye of the devil. I believe that Paul thinks like me when it comes to life. When the time finally comes to punch the final time card, I want to be able to say; “that was one hell of a ride,” and really mean it.

Let’s put another ten buck in the tank and keep this baby rolling.

Joe

Lets see , St. Paul has been listening to You, Me, Tuber, Joe, Eric, et al. Hmmmmmm I wonder why he is confused…hahahahahaha!

Does anybody know why he became a street person in the first place?

St. is the abbreviation for street isn’t it???

Glad to have helped out. …snicker snicker…:stuck_out_tongue:

Flybinder, I think a lot of us have been aware of your condition by reading between the lines of your posts. I have admired how you have dealt with it and been amazed at the amount of energy you have left while dealing with the treatments. I hope that if you cannot get a remission then you will retain your physical vigor and sense of humor until the end.

Paul;
I am making it my priority mission to see that you and Sammi have a wonderfull time at the Michigan Fish-In (I think I’ll have lots of help!). You 2 have got to visit Wakely Lake (Mikie and I will haul the canoe) so you guys can fish some awsome warm water and adopt a Large Mouth Bass for the day (You’ve got to see it to believe it!!).
Burgers at "Spikes ‘Geg O Nails’"are on me and Mikie!!
We’re all pulling for you, but you know that don’t you ya old buzzard!!

I’ll supply and deliver the canoe (15’ Coleman that I’m bringing for river floats). I have a wheeled carrier for the 1/4 mile walk from the parking lot to the lake. You just need a PFD that properly fits Sam. All mine are adult sizes.

If you want to do a river float with the canoe, I can also arrange the drop off and pickup of the canoe. Many options for short, medium and all-day float trips on the Au Sable.

Joe

Paul,
Thanks for sharing this with us all on FAOL. You are definately in the Sluder family prayers.

Jeff
