Looks like it’s my turn as host this
month. I thought alot about this one
and I hope my theme suit’s everyone.
I hope to make this one fun
with a bit of a challenge. The first swap
I ever participated in was based on the
articles of Al Campbell. I jumped at the
chance to tie some of Al’s patterns
because I had been reading his articles
and tying his patterns before I ever
became a member of FAOL. One
thing I realized right away was that even
though a pattern is simple, it can still
be very effective.
So here it is, the rules for this
months swap are simple. No more
than three materials allowed , not
counting your choice of hook and
thread. Hey, some of Al’s patterns have
only one, so the fewer the better. There is
no set type of fly, dry, wet, nymph
whatever you would like. No matter if
it’s a pattern you read about, saw or
even better yet, something you came up
with on your own, anything goes. The
only limit on this months swap is just a
hook, thread, plus three or less materials
and your imagination.
As always, standard swap rules
apply. Please P.M. me with any questions
or comments. And remember to just
have fun.
I’ll do a one material fly. A wet fly that was demonstrated to me bij Hans Weilenman. Tail two fibers of the used Partridge feather (larger feather from the side), Body the hackle stem, thorax, the filoplume of the used feather and as hackle two turns of the Partridge feather. I’ll look at my materials to decide which color Brown, Yellow, Olive, Black or natural.

I will share with you all one of my best kept secrets. For this swap, I will do the Ultimate, the most successful pattern for Crappie, and SM Bass I have ever used…the Electric Chicken Clouser
I’ll do a Bead Head Spinner.
Hook Daichii 1110 sz 20… sz may change
Thread 10/0 Olive
Bead Red Glass Bead
Wing White Poly
Body Olive Punch Yarn
I’ll see if I’ve got a picture somewhere
Whoops I forgot about the tail I’ll just incorparate the tail and the wings out of a single poly yarn strand
Just curious how you have ten names listed when only five replied to your original post? If you’re reserving the swap for a closed group of eleven, isn’t the sportsman thing to do, is to conduct the swap offline privately?
This swap was actually started 2 years ago, with 12 people…one for each month of the year, and we each take turns hosting for each month, with the Swapmiester for that month picking the theme. We just kept continuing it, and as people drop out (for various reasons), we allowed a new person to take their place. Right now, I think we actually have 2 spots open, so if you wanted to get in, now is a good time. But remember, you’ll be commiting for the rest of the year, and will need to host at least one month. For April, I believe texfly is hosting, but I think John R. is the over-all adminstrator for the swap, so you might drop him a PM.
I think you would find this swap interesting, to say the least. We have had some very unique themes over the months, and many times have our skills tested. It has greatly sharpened my tying skills.

Gig,
Thanks for the explanation. I was just perusing the swaps and thought it was odd with only a few post on this thread. but after I posted below, I started going back though the older ‘Month’ swaps and saw the 12 month swap commitment. That makes sense. Even if there was an opening, I’m not sure I could make a monthly tying commitment right now. Thanks for the heads up though!
