What are your impressions on of the new reel? Does this replace the current LA or will the new model be an addition to the line up?
I like to looks of it. I saw the new one next to the old one at my local fly shop the other day, but I didn’t get to handle it, so I can’t really comment on the feel. If it’s drag is anything like the mid-arbor reels then I don’t think you’ll be able to go wrong with it.
If I remember correctly it’s significantly wider than the old ones, which means there’s more room for backing and some of the shooting head lines that have a huge diameter head. I had a problem like that with a reel that I was using. If I used a standard tapered line, no problem, but if I was using my pike taper, I almost couldn’t wind all the line onto the spool, it was just that much thicker.
All the best,
Thunderthumbs.
Sorry to say none of the Chinese made Orvis reels compare in quality with the English made ones.I have 3 of them and except for 1 a BBSIII I’ve had to take the other 2 back 1 for a bad spool the other for a binding handle. You can get more bang for your buck with another company. If your really want an Asian made reel buy directly from them Tica or Okuma. Got to admit the price is right.
