orvis madison fly reel and the rod is a eagle claw rogue eagle. Just picked it up yesterday for a miniscul amount and was curios about them. It appears the rod is glass. The reels I know nothing about except they are a medalist knockoff. Thanks in advance for the help
There was more than one generation of Orvis Madison reels.
The “Medalist knockoff” you describe was, as I recall, a mid-70s to early-80s Orvis offering with a black frame and light gray spool…right?
If so, it’s not actually a “Medalist knockoff.” It was made by Pflueger and branded for Orvis. Don’t confuse it with the cheap, imported “copies” of the same period.
In similar condition, I would consider it more valuable and desirable than a standard Medalist of the same period. It sounds like you did better than you may realize.
Could you post a picture? May help with identification for you.
here is one side of the reel

Sorry for any confusion. I thought you had one of these early Madisons when you said “Medalist knockoff.”
Yours is a of a later Madison series and should be a decent reel…though it doesn’t look like a Medalist to me.
How many guides on the rod? I would guess less than 8
Without knowing for sure, I would guess that that is a $15 rod (+/-)
The foam grip kinda gives it away as lesser quality
