Anyone have any expierience with hook&hackle rods?

I have been looking for a good, but cheap rod. Anyone have any opinions on these rods? They are on sale right now. I can’t afford it this week, but if they go on sale again in a week or two I might pick one up. Thanks.

Often excellent results.

I’ve never had any problems with any of the H&H blanks I’ve built … other than it being terribly addictive!!

Oh, and don’t think of them as “cheap”, they’re “less costly”!

I really like my 9 ft 3 wt. Going on its 6th year with no problems.

Tim

I have built three rods from them. I like all of them.

Nice kits, Good Components, nothing “Cheap” about them

First rate products at H&H. I’ve built a few rods on their blanks and had excellent results. Top of the line warranty service also. I get lots of stuff from H&H and it’s all great. also Ron runs lots of sales and promotions nearly every day I get an email from them with some sale or other. Special deals with $3.00 postage also, and many deals for FAOL members only…Great outfit & generous sponsor of this site…ModocDan

I built this rod from a H&H IM6 blank. I’ve had it for awhile. When I bought it they were made in USA by I believe Batson.
I’ve built other rods from that series. The 9’ 3 wt. is the best of the bunch. Its a true 3 wt, it reminds me of a Winston WT with a stiff butt and soft tip. I can “lean” on the rod and get pretty good distance out of it yet it can lay down a fly with barely a ripple.

I don’t want to side track this thread but do have a question that I am sure others would like to know also. Betty and Rick ,which rod blanks or kits have you built and why do you like them, and how do they cast as a rule. I have been watching You-Tube videos and reading a little and am about to embark on maybe a 2wt project and would like some advice for a first timer. It looks like the only 2wt stuff is a 6.6 foot blank and the shortest rod I currently have is a couple of 7 1/2 foot 3 Forks from Cabela’s. H&H looks to carry Rain Forest, Rain Shadow, Forecast, GL Loomis, St Croix and HHX blanks and some kits. With your knowledge and experience which ones might you recommend? The best rod that I have now is a Cabela’s LST in a 5wt and a 3wt so how might some of these compare? Thanks in advance for sharing.

I don’t believe Terry is talkin’ blanks,
More like this rod that’s on sale now
Hook & Hackle Classic Series Fly Rod / 5/6 Wt.-Hook and Hackle

Terry… check out the Albright Rods too
There’s a link on the sponsor page

I realize the OP is talking about rods. My only experience is with blanks. I posted because my blank was made into a rod. The result is posted above.

Most of the rods I’ve built have been for others. Thus, having said that, I’ve still got 6’6"2#'s, 5’4#, several ()7’6"4 and 5#'s, and love em all! I can’t tell the difference in them or their higher priced rods.

That would be relevant if it was the same blank.
There’s no indication in the listing as to what the blank is

Are you sure it’s the same blank ??
It doesn’t say in the listing what it is or where it comes from…
Just that it’s black and that the rod is built ‘by a major manufacturer’

One easy way to find out … give Ron a call and ask him! :stuck_out_tongue:
