Anybody top this one?

We just returned from my #3 son’s wedding in Colorado. Super time, starting with a bar-b-q at Bride’s Mom’s house for 50 or more (the Old Guy here manning the grill), next evening a Wedding Rehearsal Dinner for 100+ (some of you may know the Flagstaff House in Boulder) - for this one the Old Goy had to “man” his credit card (moan), then on wedding day many of the male attendees to the wedding played in a round robin full court basketball tournement - the Old Guy could still shoot his hook shots - most of the young folks had never really seen the George Mikan type of hook! I must confess, Full Court ain’t my bag anymore. But I did play for 15 minutes or so.

And then, the wedding up on the mountain side with the bride and groom looking like they came out of a magazine. Everyone there was on cloud nine and, can you believe it, a double rainbow off in the distance.

Wedding Reception was a joy to behold with all concerned having a great time.

Now what does this have to do with Fly Fishing? Ready?

The Old Guy (that’s me folks) got to fly fish with the Bride and Groom on their Honeymoon up in the mountains on a private stretch of the Elk River. I wanna tell ya, that gal can cast!! The Groom and I hung our heads in shame when it came to casting. I cannot express how gratified I was to be asked to go fishing with them.

How 'bout that?

Wow, sounds like a very special experience. I bet you were crying tears of blood when the check arrived at Flagstaff house. Great food there, but it sure makes a dent in the wallet.

I hope not everyone ordered the “Snake River Kobe ?Gold? New York Strip Loin & Rib of Beef Cap” for $95 bucks a head.

Jordan, we preselected the menu so the Kobe beef stayed in the fridge…but the Filet and Halibut outnumbered the Chicken by a big factor. But, y’know - I’m a very lucky guy to have such wonderful “kids” (the five of them range in age from 28 to 50) and I’m happy that we can let it all hang out once in a while for them.

Yeah, there were tears up there, but they were “of joy” plain and simple.

Special moments with memories worth every damned penny spent.

Wow , nope can"t top that . Hopefully you are in line for some free casting lessons from the new daughter in law . Lucky devil .

Very nice! May they have a great life together for a very long while…

Sounds like your in for some great fishing company too…

Take care!

That is class. It takes class to take the father in law on the honeymoon to fish.SHE’s got CLASS
Congradulations on the new addition of a fishing daughter (inlaw)

Wow!! You got to go fishing! Wait a minute, who paid for the guide…D’oh, not again… She sounds like a keeper though, congrats to your family - and, nicely done “Dad”.

No guide, remember this stretch of the Elk has been in the family since my (new) daughter-in-law was in dydies. She “knows” the river. Case in point - “Why don’t you try this pool, there’s usually a couple good ones over behind that big rock, and try that bank there. We’ll head down river 50 yards or so”. Even my bumbling casts were getting results. BTW, Copper John under a yarn striker.

Total cost for Grooms Father’s share of the wedding (rehearsal dinner, misc. stuff, motels, etc.): A BUNCH

Emotional cost watching one’s son “fly away”:
A LOT

Cost to fish with new couple in triad solitude:
PRICELESS

Silvertop,

Does she have a sister?
I am looking for a gal like that
for #1 son!
Besides, me and the wife never took a honeymoon!

Nope, no sister. But her Mom is “single” and a really super class act lady. One defect however, “Mom” doesn’t fly fish, doesn’t even want to hear anyone suggesting that she should. Ergo, she makes a great partner for the Lady of My House when I’m out on the water though.

Silvertop2, Great! This story keeps gettng better and better… We should all be so lucky when the kids find someone to marry. I hope that was the first of many happy family trips together. Best Wishes, Jim
