Hey Mantis:
I am alive and kicking, been stored in the bathroom for a week, reaction to the new meds.
I think I need to let everyone know that I am healthy, the meds are making me sick. The cancer is going down. I am in great spirits, and starting to recover from all the bad med reactions. I plan on being at the Florida Fish-in that Dave has jumped in and handled with such a professional attitude. Both Purebs and I were going to try to run the fish-in this year but due to my sickness and Purebs changing jobs and such, Dave stepped up to the plate and I think has done a wonderful job.
Mantis, anytime you want drop me a line, I may only answer it with a grunt if I am sick but I will try to keep the lines of communication open. Stev let me know today that I was being neglectful but he understands that I do not have a computer in the bathroom… Now I have a laptop, I have a wireless connection I can use. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Let me think this over, NOPE just not enough room to do what needs to be done in the speed it needs to be done with a #%#$% computer in the way… <grin> So if I am off line, feel sorry for me because I am running to the bathroom or I have decided it is safer to stay there.
Last Friday I took 15 Imodium AD in 12 hours. Did not even slow it down. Went to the doctor, (talk about nervous trip figure where I had spent the last 2 days and they want to put me in a car and drive 45 minutes in traffic… ) Good thing I was lucky or he would have been paying for a messing cleaning bill. Anyway they strap me into the chair and start pumping fluids into me. NOW Listen, I am trying to stop fluids from coming out of me, and they are pumping 1 full liter of stuff back in. Anyway they give me a new drug, pill is so small you can hardly see it… But it stopped the runs!!! ONE TINY PILL yup there are still miracles…
But thanks for worrying, I will try to keep on line a little better… I told Dave I would try to tie some flies, but again no tying bench in the potty room. Not a lot of desire to do much in there except get out. hehhehehehehe
So everyone keep me on the prayer list, but not on the death bed. I intend to be in remission by the summer. Oh if you did not know I am bald now, that was the pits. More of a mess than anything else. Get this, after being married 22 years the wife tells me she likes my hair short. I had to get cancer to please my fishing partner about my hair… <grin>
I do not know when Stev and I will be fishing, the weather has been cold for us southerns. 40 degrees sends us to the heater, and this last weekend we had cold temps and 45 mph winds… MIGHT could have stretched the fly line and got the kinks out but wow what a backcast that would take…
So to sum this all up…
I am getting better, the doctor and I are working on getting the meds right. After that I should be back in the swing of things. I am sorry if anyone was worried. Stev has been keeping in touch and fielding questions about my health. I need to go to lunch with him. We have had hamburgers waiting for 3 months or so… Should be aged just about right by now…
Take care everyone,
Hugs
Harold

Hey Harold, Thanks for the reply. your great attitude makes us all feel better.
Concede it the bad days but don’t give it the good days too! That has been my own motto and sounds like it is yours too.
Glad you are now dethroned!!! Keep heart my friend,…Bob
Noted : Harold …off death watch … on Potty watch . Good to hear Harold , sort of I guess . The urge to insert some bathroom humor here is almost to great to pass up but I gave my head a shake and got over it . Great to hear that you are getting slowly better and the cancer is being beaten back .
My prayers as always Harold .
Harold;
(Excuse me mantis for jumping on your thread).
Harold:
Your fantastic sense of humor and positive attitude are a wonderful thing to behold. I believe they are the most important requirements to the road for recovery. I want to wet a line with you sir! Or just share the experiance!!
You Take Care Now, Ya Hear!!
Harold,
I can only imagine what you’ve been
going through. But for you to maintain
that great sense of humor and ready wit,
you are my hero! I know in my heart of
hearts that you’ll beat this thing. I
look forward to meeting you one day soon.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Warm regards, Jim
Heck Jack I want you to jump in! We’re the old timers on here. How’d ya like that big 4.1 percent raise in our SS? Better than none I guess.
Harold will do well. We must all continue to keep him in our thoughts and prayers.

Hey Harold,
GREAT to hear from you! I had been wondering & apologize for not keeping in touch but been soo busy.
I think we need to “bottle” your attitude & spread it around…very few folks can match your determination & positive outlook.
Mike
This site’s about sharing!
Harold,
I don’t really know you, but I feel like I do. I will continue to pray for your healing. Keep looking forward to summer!

Harold, I wish I were half the man you are! You are always in our prayers. Hey if the little pill stops working try eating an M.R.E. (meal, ready to eat). They can plug up anything

Harold,
Hang in there. I have a friend going through the same thing, can’t get to far from the toilet but he is doing better each day and I pray you will also.

Hi Harold,
I’m sorry to hear that the medicine has been causing you such misery. As a silver lining, you may be able to get some reading done. Hang in there, guy! My mother had a very bad bout with both chemo and radiation; nausea, the runs, total hair loss, pretty much the whole package. She’s now up and around, going shoping by her self and feeling great. You’ll be back to normal soon and better than ever. Prayers and best wishes continue coming to you from South Carolina. 8T
Sorry to here about the frequent trips to the Porcelain Thrown, understand how medicine’s can cause the “Galloping Two Step”. As for the baldness, that is to be expected with Chemo Therapy, now is your chance to, buy some Tootsie Roll Pops, and do your best “Kojac” imitation.

Way to go Harold!
Though not nearly so seroius, we sorta know how you were looking foward to your car ride. We got some bad water on a ranch we delivered to years back. The results were similar to what you describe. Bad enough to miss work, but not fishing. One SURELY did not leave the roll of brownie film at home while fishing. AND bring along a spare roll too! Fortunately, city routes were not needed to reach the fishing holes.
Thoughts and prayers surely go your way.

As you can see from his post, Harold remains one of the most upbeat, optimistic people I’ve ever been privileged to know.
When those burgers are sufficiently aged, we’ll meet and devour them. We just need to wait until he has time to taste them and appreciate them before…
I’m looking forward to fishing with him again this spring. He has a marvelous eye for all the other features and attractions at the water’s edges. There are no bad fishing trips with Harold.
In the meantime, I know he appreciates everyone’s support and concern. When you find time, e-mail him. But don’t worry if he doesn’t reply immediately. He’s currently fighting the hardest fight of his life, expending tremendous amounts of energy as he recovers and heals.

HH:
I have a plan.
The ocean does a pretty good job of diluting sewage. Dismiss your modesty and your pants and stand waist deep in the Sky Way flats. (please make sure to move out as the tide drops)
If you need to sit, feel free to bring an old beach chair. Just cut a hole in the bottom and let it fly. Your line that is.
We’ll see you again sometime soon.

One other thing. I love him, but Troy Brown is no HH.
Eponymous, while Tampa Bay is far from pristine, I’m pretty sure that what you suggest to Harold could be considered chumming.
Furthermore, nude fly fishing with saltwater sized hooks can be rather painful if the wind shifts, a cast collapses, or some other error takes place.

Not only that, what fish won’t take a worm.
Good to see you are in good spirits HH and improving health.

Hi everyone:
Thanks for the kind words:
eponymous between you and Stev I’ll bet you guys figure out a way for me to have a porta potty out there just in case.
I was at the doctor today and they were happy I was not holding on to the bathroom door to keep others from using it…
One of the cancer patients came up and was talking to me about a meal I had taught him how to cook. He was telling me how good it was and how he eats it once a week. He called me by name and shook hands with me as he left. I turned around to see one of the nurses crying. Of course I went to her and asked what was wrong. She told me that the old guy could not remember his own name but could recite how to cook that meal and he even knew my name. It made me realize just how much of an impact we leave on some people. The old guy was put into Hospice today and his days are really numbered. He was an avid fisherman, (no not fly) but still loved the outdoors. I hope I get to touch someone every time I walk into that place…
Some of you talk about bottling what I have, look deep inside and you will find it already there.
Sure I am a fighter, with the doctors and my spunk I am sure we will win this fight.
When I see someone that is not going to make it I ask myself did I do something to make his or her days better. I hope so… Reach out to someone, make their day a little better and we will not have to bottle what I have, spread it around and do not save it, it grows inside of us. I see it each time one of you steps out of your way to pick up garbage, or to help another learn to fish. I see it when we have someone sick here on the board.
I am looking forward to meeting more of you, I am collecting friends all the time. God does not limit those and they are not C&R.
You do not have to believe in the same God I do, heck some of my best friends are not of the Christian religion. But reach inside and do something you are proud of doing… help someone that needs it, and you will be talked about like I am…
There are more Harold Hattaways on this board that you will imagine. Look back at the people and what they have done. Now think just how many have done things and are too shy to speak about it…
eponymous has two little guys that are spreading what should be in the bottle. They are young and reach out to people that need help, I am proud of their dad for what he does to encourage them.
So if you want to bottle what I have I demand that you donate some from your well. You have it just the same as I do. Oh sure I am more vocal, (loud mouth) and stubborn ( I refuse to let something I cannot see beat me) But the stuff to put in the bottle is in all of us.
Come on down and visit. We will make sure you have a good time… the weather is getting warmer, 61 today, winter should be over with in 2 weeks or so…
Harold
