Mine is only 30’. It holds what I need just fine. Of course, bigger is always better.

Awesome setup, NewTyer1. This hobby is not for the weak of financial resources. I bought a Toshiba netbook computer just for my ham software, and sent it home with my son yesterday to have Windows XP Pro put on it. It came with Windows 7 Starter, and neither of my HT programming software will work with the starter edition because it will not let you change the com ports. XP will take care of that issue. I wanted something small for the Go Kit I’m putting together, and the netbook fit the bill.
That is one of the unfortunate truths of Amateur Radio. The software always seems to be written on an old operating system and requires something obscure to make it work. I have not stayed up with the newer stuff for quite some time, but I certainly hope it’s getting better. I started backing off when it was becoming obvious that communications innovation was no longer being led by Amateurs. I enjoy home brew stuff. I have cobbled together TV transmitters, CW Transmitters, antennas and many other little items.

It has taken me many years of buying, selling and trading to get to where I am today. As I stated, the Yaesu FT902DM was my first radio but, I used EchoLink for a long time before. I loved it because it allows you to either use your radio or your computer. I had my hand held setup as a link and was able to sit in my yard and make contacts. My first contact was to Kings Lynn, UK. Like any hobby it is only as exspensive as you want it to be.

As a former SF communications SGT, many of my good friends are licensed HAM operators. But I’ve since been trying to get that danged morse out of my head…13yrs now and it’s still bouncing around in there. 
While still active with access to gear I would often talk (unlicensed) via morse…which was a good time. But never pursued a civilian license.
CONGRATULATIONS!!! Now you get to play with the big kids.

thanks for the congrats,Now I just have to blow the dust off my radio, get an antena up and start looking for someone to talk to.
NJ geting your licence isnt hard and some of the Morse only radios are fantastic for very little money (google qrp radios for more info)

Anyone want to try to set up a sked, I have 15 and 40 meter, something in this area is putting major qrm on 20.
