Any BOJC members here?

The (rather ostentatiously named) Brotherhood of the Jungle Cock, a.k.a. BOJC, is an organization devoted to taking children fly fishing. I’ll be at the Maryland campfire this May. Will any other FAOLers be there?

No, but here’s the web address of a pretty good article about the BOJC:

Their origins are around Big Hunting Creek near Thurmont,MD. Have wanted to attend, but was under the assumption that it was by “invitation only” - not sure. Certainly a very worthy organization. They have a monument with their creed along the highway near Cococtan National Park up in the hills up from Thurmont. Will try to dig up some other info.

Live each day as if it were your last, some day you’ll be right!

The first time I heard of this was on FAOL

I too would like more information such as a web address, I have searched a little and not found one yet.

Sounds like a group I would like to be in.

I’m sorry I can’t help you with the web address; the BOJC doesn’t have a web page. I suspect that if someone had told Ken Crawford or Frank Smoot that Jungle Cock ought to have a web page, Ken would have snorted and looked indignant, and Frank would have chuckled and lit his pipe. Both would have gone fishing.

Yes, participation in BOJC has been by invitation only for years, because they want folks who are serious about their mission, but also because the existing facilities are filled to overflowing every year. Camp Airy is socked in every May with carloads of men and boys and fishing tackle.

I kind of like, what have been said about this organization. I can almost completely understand their reasoning.

Someone decided, “Bigger is not Better”, they know what they can handle, and do a fine job of it.

Nothing wrong, with no website page, or not being up on the latest technological media either. Why advertise when you have all the business you want to handle.

I have an old toaster, that toast bread perfectly. I just need to re-wire the heating elements every 5 or 6 years, to keep it operational. Only takes about 1 hour in the shop, have a couple of lifetime supply of the heating element wire.

Well, there are chapters in several states. I know that there are BOJC chapters in New York, I believe Ohio, and Virginia as well as in Maryland.
