Another way to spend a day off

Yesterday our club hosted a Trout Pond for the kids at a local outdoors expo. The kids had a great time and I was the only one to get a hook in a finger! (barbless)
Very few even know there is a Fly Fishing Club in the area so we got some good exposure, signed up a few new members, sold some T shirts and interested a couple in fly tying.
We were even invited to come over to East Tennessee to do the same thing at an expo there.

Way to go Jack!!! Time well spent.

Jack,
I will be calling both you & Warren about this today. You gave me the idea for a “warm water” club here in Ohio & I hope to get some input from you two.
Nice pics…thanks for sharing!
Mike

Jack,

That is fantastic! Kids today need to be exposed to outdoor recreation. TVs, video games and other electronics are fine, but they don’t instill a sense of conserving the natural world.

Good job Jack!

jack,

how do i get one of those t-shirts?

Jack,

That makes two of us…if there’s any way possible…I also happen to be a big fan of the other thing that comes from Lynchburg, TN…you know…the 80 proof kind

I guess some of you have noticed the similarity to the label on the product ausable_ny is refering too! We are lucky to have a member in the business, he even produced the banner.
We got the display space for free as they needed someone to help with the trout pond and the organizer insisted that it look like it was all ours. He had the pond built and supplied the fish.
This is a great way to present our sport to the public so take advantage of helping with events of this type in your area.
Yes, Lynchburg Fly Fishing Club T shirts are available. Just pm me for details.
We are a just a bunch of fly fishers that get togather once a month. No affiillation with any orginization, no dues, no officers. Just dedicated to furthering the sport.

Hey!!! Those are BIG trout!

Jack,
Thanks for posting your pictures. Mine are still in the camera. Jack and I had a good time and the “kids” had a bigger time. I had one young man that was really interested in fly tying and kept me busy on the vise tying flies. I spoke to his Dad and his Dad gave his permission to allow his son to come to my home and I will teach him at home. I may have to go get him since the young man is too young to drive, but, he had a sincere desire to learn to tie flies and I just could not pass up the opportunity since I love to teach fly tying especially to “kids”. JC, the fish were 1 3/4 pounds and up! They were nice trout and put a good fight for the “kids” and some grown ups! The expo was sponsored by the Grace Baptist Church and I told the minister there that if his youth group had a desire to learn fly tying I would come to the church and donate my time and material to teach them. He said that was great as long as I allowed some adults to join! The Grace Baptist Church has a fantastic youth program and it was great to see young people with an interest in the great outdoors.

It was a busy day for all but it was fun!

Jack,
Thanks for helping those kids!!
Doug

Wonderful Warren, great job, proud of ya. Nothing wrong with getting some of those middle aged guys ‘back’ into fly fishing either. Go for it.

Hi Jack,

Great post. I really like the t-shirts and woldn’t mind getting one. Are they for sale?

Thanks,
Sean

You guys are the best!

Warren, that’s great of you to offer.

So, was that a spnning rod and reel that I saw in your hand?

Ed,

Yep, it sure was a spinning rod! They (Grace Baptist Church) just took spinning rod outfits and tied line to the tip top and then a fly on the end of about 6-8 foot of line which worked out really well. There was one little girl that just stood there holding the rod straight up and winding the reel handle and watching her fly in the water!
