I have posted a colour chart of silk thread called Seta Reale marketed in the UK by Coats UK.
The colour range is fantastic. It appears to be about the same thickness as Pearsalls.
It is on tubular spools and will have to be rewound onto standard wooden spools or the metallic type
used on sewing machines. With that range it will be worth the trouble. http://www.dtnicolson.dial.pipex.com/page183.html
I have also found a range of silk by Gutermann a Swiss company, it is of a thicker gauge and the colour range
is smaller, but it could be useful. I’ll post their chart on my site ASAP.
No Jeff,
The local sewing machine store has only been stocking it since the beginning of the month.
They need to be re-spooled, and are not cheap. I only got the chart from Coats this morning.
Will keep you informed.
Hi Donald,
If the spools are tubular as are some of the Kreinik threads and some of the German made Sulky threads, I found a great bobbin from Griffin that will accept the tubular shape spools and also the fatter regular spools. There is also a plastic bobbin that came in a package of three but I can not remember who sold them to me or who the manufacturer was. I apparently discarded the original bag and label they came in. It has been at least 10 or 12 years since I bought them.
You might check with Feathercraft in St. Louis ( Feathercraft.com) and also Cabela’s. I will do some more looking and get back to you if I can get more info.
Thanks Gerri,
Re-spooling by hand can be tedious in the extreme. I will keep a watch here if you get any results.
I believe it can be done with a sewing machine, I’ll have to pay a visit to my sister and see if she will let me use hers.
