Another plug for the Ekich bobbins.

About once a year I bring this up, the Ekich bobbins. I know, those are the high priced ones, and most of us are not willing or able to lay out that kind of dough for a bobbin. But, there are some who can and do. Actually, quite a few who do and are darn glad they did. This is the biggest tying season of the year and I only want to remind everyone about them. They are a fine tool and if you are into tying, at last give yourself a chance. Take a look on our sponsors page. There is a difference.
Didn’t get what you wanted for Christmas? Ho, ho, ho!!! Here’s your chance.

Yep – I second that. I have two, and they are great.

This product is well worth the cost. Furthermore, the manufacturer is a great source of information in many areas. Get his bobbin, and don’t miss the chance to get to know him.

Yep, the Ekich bobbin is a top notch tying tool. Well worth the price. And Faruk is a heck of a nice guy to boot.

Yes, top of the line bobbin.

Have two and use them almost all the time.

Guess I’m just dense…can’t seem to master the tension…either too little or to much …loosening the spool seems to be a hassle    so it just sits there and I glare at it

I’m just curious as to what flies and what type of thread folks are using with the Ekich bobbin. I have been thinking about getting one for some time. I tie mostly trout flies in the size 14 and smaller range using primarily 8/0 Uni thread with a Renzetti rotary vise. Do you think I would be happy with this bobbin?

I use 8/0 UNI 80 percent of the time and on occasion ultras fine mono thread with out any problems. It took a little getting use to slipping the spool off with my fingers of the hand holding the bobbin especially with the knotty joints to relieve thread tension so the thread does not zip back down through the tube. But like anything else it is just a matter of getting used to. Do wish in my arthitic condition it had a push button tension release on the spool holder but other than that it is a finely machined tool a pleasure to use.

Hi ducksterman,
There are several Ekich bobbins in Oregon
so I can not pin point who you are.
I would like to help you go through the learning curve. Please contact me via e-mail and I will give you a call.
Happy New Year
Faruk Ekich

I use my Ekich bobbin with uni 8/0 all the time. It’s fits your hand like a dream, and I love the weight, especially when it comes to setting wings on wet flies. The bobbin was DESIGNED with uni thread in mind.
Faruk Ekich really cares about his product. When I was first struggling with the device (not holding it correctly, among other things), he heard about it and called me to help, and help he did. You do have to get used to the automatic feature somewhat, but it becomes, well, automatic after awhile. Great product, and I’ll be getting another one, once I get Christmas paid off (in about 7 or 8 years).

Hello,

I have been interested in Ekich bobbin, and I have a question.

When you spin the bobbin to flatten or twist the tying thread, does it still work fine? No wobbling?

There is some wobbling, but it works fine. The pro’s definitely outweigh the cons. I live in Middleton – You can PM me if you wish.

I am with Ducksterman. His experience is exactly as mine has been. A very nicely made tool, but it languishes at the back of my desk.

Given the responses, why not contact Mr. Ekich? Sounds like he wants all who purchased his bobbin to be satisfied and using it.

While I don’t have the Ekich Bobbin, I do have an automatic bobbin from another manufacturer and like the feature of the automatic take up. I like it so much that I rarely use my other non-automatic bobbins anymore. Peter, I think if you gave him a call you’ll become a convert of the automatic bobbin.

In my opinion the Ekich bobbin is a very fine tool. I have tied many dozens of flies with it and it performs extremely well for me as a commercial tier. I like it better than the other automatic bobbin on the market. It feels great in the hand and after a very short initial period of learning just how the thing works, I adapted to it very well? and you don?t have to fool with an electric drill every time you need to re-spool thread. I use the Ekich bobbin with a Nor-vise so I can turn out many flies in a shorter time which is important when tying commercially. So, in my particular tying situation this tool is very highly regarded. Mr. Ekich is a pleasure to deal with and would be enthusiastically helpful if you had questions or needed help.

Whats this bobbin cost?

I have the “other” automatic bobbin and use it regularly for tying deer hair bugs and saltwater flies. The nice thing about it is that you can easily spin it for thread control because it’s symmetrical. The Ekich bobbin doesn’t look like it will spin easily. Will it??
