Another "New" technique? NOT!

Latest issue of Fly Tyer magazine has a “new” method for creating extended bodies for mayflies. The author credits a specific person with the creation of the technique. Well, I was shocked. It may be new to the author, which given his own extensive fly tying history is a surprise in itself, but surprise of surprises, I was taught the technique perhaps 20 years ago at a meeting of the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild. Actually, when I and others at the meeting were shown the technique, the person doing the demonstration mentioned that although he had heard that at least one other tyer had claimed credit for it, he reiterated that it was he who developed it and showed it at a few programs. Given the history of this fly tyer and his creativity, he carries a lot of credability in the fly tying arena. I hope he writes a letter to the editor of the magazine addressing the article. Oh wait! The author IS the editor. This could be fun.

Oh, let me ask - If anyone has read the article I’m referencing, have you heard, seen or read about the method? If so, was anyone credited with the method? Who?

Allan

Yes, I have read the article…its in front of me now.

Actually Dave is talking specifically about the particular method of using the Norvise in the process, which was developed by Norm Norlander. Not the creation of the extended body itself. He states there are numerous other ways developed by others, but for him this is the easiest of all.
