I really liked this one…
Don’t blame ya. Very nice. Proportions look great. Recipe?
Thanks…
Not sure how it will fish because the body is made from UTC Ultra Wire in Hot Yellow. The thorax is punch yarn and the hackle is from a hen pheasant skin. The hook size is 14.
It may sink too fast because of the wire body. Have you tried any with a wire body?
Warren,
No, I haven’t fished any with a wirebody, though I did receive a fine spider with a wire body in a recent soft hackle swap. That fine wire will get the fly below the surface film, but may not get it as deep as you think, or affect the way the fly fishes that much.
I think I’ll tie a few up and see how they fish for myself.
Nicely done.
A few years ago I had the opportunity to get a copy of TROUT AND SALMON from the UK. There was an article about soft hackled wets using wire bodies. I tied a variety of body colors (single or mixed) using ultra wire and have had GREAT success with these. As long as I have used copper or gold as one of the colors I have been able to attract fish–it almost doesn’t matter what the second color has been although wine and green have served me the best
Not sure it will work in all waters but not a great expense and EASY to tie.

dmdmd,
Thanks for that info…I will tie some up and see what happens…Any particular collar color working better for you?
That is a very nice fly Warren.
WarrenP,
A few years back I experimented with wire body wets and a fly that worked pretty well here in PA was a little yellow & brown stonefly with yellow dub thorax and a bleached partridge hackle. Used the ultra wire and wrapped the wire one in front of one another. Used mustad 3906B in #12 and #14. Give that one a try. By the way nice fly.
