Another banner day

Fished Sarasota Bay again today and found the pompano chewing like crazy. Caught 30 pomps on Super Hair Clousers, with the largest fish going nearly 5 pounds. Also, added six bluefish to 4 pounds, four Spanish mackerel to 5, two small spotted seatrout and a couple of ladyfish. All fish on Clousers.

Fishing should be good tomorrow and Wednesday. However, an approaching cold front Wednesday night should shut things down for at least 3-4 days.

Interestingly enough, all I had to do was sit and watch for fish to either break on the surface or fin on the surface. And anywhere I saw baitfish on the surface, I’d cast and it would usually result in the fish.

Best pompano action I’ve ever had on fly – or any tackle for that matter. I’m convinced, though, that the fly is outproducing any other form of fishing.

Here are some photos. Sorry about the water on my lens when I took the photo of the Spanish mackerel!

As an aside, this pompano fishing in Sarasota Bay the best I’ve seen since 1996. Pompano are known to be cyclical.

Fly of choice was a chartreuse and white Super Hair Clouser. With mackerel and bluefish also in the area, Super Hair lasts longer than bucktail.
